I suck at hatching eggs.

The one that died, well i figured out why it died!! It was a rear end pipper!! I wish i would have known that!! Well, since it was dead. I decided to open it up. When i finally got to it, their were air bubbles is the membrane. It couldn't breath, and this is when I stopped opening the bator. And said I wasn't gonna help again!! I could have saved him

.... there was no blood, nor yolk to absorb! & He was stuck, and he died, because I didn't help him.

I didn't post that. That was Julie. I am still trying to figure all of this out. There seems to be contradicting information just like feeding any animal or human. I feed both my cat and dog raw. So I am kinda food anal. I just want to do what is right, no less.

Eyeheart, I believe symptoms of niacin deficiency are mostly leg issues. Then there is vit b (thiamine) deficiency which causes wry neck and star gazing (which I have also dealt with when my cayuga duck was a week old and fixed with polyvisol).

Ducklings are extremely fragile. Fortunately, they are resilient little things.

This is a pic of my first gosling, No. 1, completely internally pipped and getting ready to externally pip. See the pink point in there? That is the tip of the beak. Also note the line drawn on the outside of shell (day 21). See how it is completely dark on the bottom past the line? That is the gosling's body.

Dutch - Horses can just be so irrational in their decision making process, can't they? When Dandy (an old horse dead now) knocked over a feed troubh, then stepped through it and cut his foot to the bone several times in his INSANE EFFORTS to free himself, it was a long haul to good health. I hope with more of your excellent care, he'll return to a sound leg soon. Whats his name?

His name is Creasy....from the movie, "Man on Fire" with Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning? I know it sounds odd, lol. Denzel's last name in the movie was Creasy, and Dakota's character always called him Creasy Bear. It was my favorite movie at the time I aquired my big baby. I call my boy Creasy Baby...or Creasy...or Crease...or like today, ....well we won't go into what I called him today

White Peking - 23 femalees, 6 males
Khaki Cambell - 32 females, 4 males
Chocolate turkey - 3 lonely hens widowed last thanksgiving
Quail - 11 useless eldery birds that I don't have the heart to free or eat and 4 young unasex birds (waiting for them to crow or lay an egg in another week or two)
Jumbo Peking Duck - Lucky, tried to se, and think its a boy,
I saw a pee pee
3 black sex link pullets (one week old)
1 mille fleur baby
1 bantem barred rock baby
1 "surprise extra" the dude sent for free with the baby bouquet DH brought me last week.

LOL Eyeheart... no worries!! I commend you for feeding BARF. I too enjoy learning about nutrition and health care. When I got my geese, I called Holderreads and talked to them about what to feed and not to feed them. And after two health issues with my ducklings, I am now having my feed store special order mazuri starter and grower for my babies.

Have no idea. His egg is as hard to candle as a quail egg. Reddish area still looks good though and is growing, so I'm guessing ok.
