Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

So, it looks like my khaki campbell from Marty's eggs is a girl. Quack-quack-quack! I would have been okay either way, but definitely a girl!

Out of the three cayugas, it looks like one boy and two girls. Of course, I can't tell them apart, so not sure if I quacked the same one twice.

Little injured BEI is still recuperating. Not sure if that leg is going to heal right or not, but she makes it around gingerly. I think she got pushed off the duck house ramp by a bigger duck.

Got a penciled runner who refuses to go to bed at night. I've been having a huge battle with this one duck for a week now.

Doesn't look like I'm going to get out of attending that wedding. Hubby's already figured out that I'm trying to weasel out. I'm so transparent. Tried to set him up with a carpool so I didn't have to go... no dice. Tried to convince him to ride with his sibs... not happening. He doesn't seem to understand that I prefer the company of my ducks and ducklings than a random gathering of strangers.

I think that some said they felt like the thread was taken over (but I havn't figured out by whom just yet) and others are just off with their other interests.

I'm having another go at the giant pekings. They are by far the hardest darn birds to hatch that I've had pass through my hands. 26 eggs, one duck. As for not taking a duck to the vet, just wait until one you love needs you.

1 out of 26? Ouch! I thought cayugas were hard! What day are your current pekin set on?
I was MIA for a bit....lots of stress and such. I finished off what was in the bators, but just set 13 Call eggs under my blue fawn hens yesterday. I'm collecting another batch to set next week.

She is definitely a miracle goose, no doubt. She is obviously meant to be here. And I know what you mean about kids/pets. My pets are as much my kids, as my kids are. That's where my BF and I don't see eye to eye. I was raised that our dogs were family members. I'm still grieving for my horse, but it's eased up a lot. Sandy is doing a good job with that. She has really warmed up to me! I just came back from a long ride down the county road and back. She is just fabulous! We stopped in at my mother's so she could help me alter some tack to better fit Sandy. We ended up coming home in the dark, lol. At least she's easy to see in the dark...I was wearing black jeans and a black tee

Awww.... that sounds like a lovely evening!!

Oh...and Utah....haven't received an email reply from Carole yet. I have no idea if she shipped them yesterday or not. I guess I'll get a call around 6-7am in the morning, if she did.

I'd call her in the morning. Got her cell number?

we've been busy and Jerry's been over doin things and that translates into short nights for both of us. I've got 15 out of 18 eggs in the bator 14 Sumatra and one cochin that was added as an extra...... i'm trying to wait till I have 6 or 7 to put the next batch in... hard with only one of the 3 hens laying

I do get on and read how things are going and I keep Jerry updated. We'll both be on a lot more when it gets cold outside.

everyone!

Tell Jerry to spend more time with us and less time over doing it. It's a win-win.

Congrats on the girls!! Bummer about hubby not giving in about staying home for the hatch. Hopefully, you'll see them externally pip and know that all is well before you leave.

Tonight, my toulouse decided to not cooperate with going from yard to pen, so I had to herd them with a stick and thought of you. So I started telling them, "see what you had to make me do... I had to bring out the stick of shame." lol

Ummm...just got a response from Carole...She didn't know she was shipping me any goslings???? OMG! I went back and forwarded her email to me, about what she was going to do, back to her. WTH?

Hey guys! Just poppin' in to say "Hello" again. I hope all is well and I really don't have the patience to go back and read all the posts.

I'm getting that sinking feeling about the silkie eggs. They don't seem to be moving when they were yesterday.

I've had the stick of shame out every night this week. Finally gave up tonight, so there's one lucky blue swedish drake named Michael who gets to sleep in the dog crate.

Beatrice is holding her own. The vet did not see the need to flush her out again yesterday evening. She did another fecal exam and found no infection, yeast, coccidiosis, etc. She is pooping again. Her system is all jacked up, which is understandable. The vet did show me how to tube her but the special feed she wants me to put down her gullet is just too hard to deal with and DH draws the line about helping me with this chore so I just offered her the food and she did eat some of it for me. She also will eat a little of her food (watered down real well of course). She is drinking lots and lots still and her poop has a little grass in it still so the vet thinks the blockage is just a partial blockage now. Hopefully in a day or so it will completely clear if I can keep her strong for long enough. I am scared to put her back out on grass yet but I know its got to happen sooner or later. They weighed her and she hasn't lost any weight which is amazing to me, of course she hasn't gained any either. I hope I'm not offending anyone by posting all this on this thread. Anyway, more later....
