Fantastic photos, JZ. We don't see snow here very often. In winter if I drove to a place about 2 hours away (Australia's highest mountains) I could throw a snowball. Australia's highest mountains would look like hills to you guys. You can stroll up our highest mountain (Mt Kosciuszko) by lunchtime and be back to your car for afternoon tea (in summer that is, in winter you'd have to ski).

Yes, we have lots of eastern greys around here. You do sometimes see them in the suburbs here in Canberra because there's a lot of patches of bush that have been retained. They come in at night to eat people's lawns. Conditions are better around here at the moment as we had a lot of rain last year - that means the kangaroos have bred a lot. Kangaroos are pretty amazing animals. I see them often (you don't have to drive far here to find them, plus they hang out in my friend's horse paddock and I go out there regularly) but it's still always impressive to see them jumping along. They are very pretty animals. The males can be quite big though (easily as tall as a person) and you wouldn't want to get too close to them. You have to be careful walking a dog off-lead where there are roos. Most dogs couldn't go fast enough to catch a roo but if the roo was cornered the dog would come off second best (they stand on their tail and kick the dog in the stomach with their hind legs). They even lure dogs into dams then drown them (that happened to a dog belonging to an old neighbour of mine).

To defend themselves against the dog. If the dog is chasing them sometimes they will go into a dam and stand there and the dog will swim in after and the kangaroo will drown them. It doesn't happen very often but I have met two people who have had this happen to their dogs (which they were watching - horrible). I never let my dog off lead if there are kangaroos around.

I think it was Julie who was mentioning possums at some point too. Our possums are totally different to yours. They are cute. We have an outdoor laundry and we have two possum houses in the laundry for possums to sleep in. They come in through a gap under the roof and sleep in their little houses during the day. I'll try to get a photo for you guys next time one is poking its head out.

Dogs are just about all animals worst enemies, my son saw a pack of dogs trying to drown a deer, they chased the dogs off the deer got away. Thanks Cocoa I was thinking this was where you might have lived. It was a very good show. I think roos of the kanga nature are awesome.
