Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Awesome!

i bid on them
roll.png

they have 6 hrs left, and no one has bid on them yet (since the auction has started)

with shipping it will be $26
if i win.

so as long as half of them hatch i will make a portion of my money back .
i will only keep maybe 3 to raise with my geese.
and this means i get to pratice vent sexing on something slightly bigger than my itty bitty calls.
=)
im waiting on the excitement to sink in, right now im nervouss. haha .

So... all this talk about making ebay purchases. I went ahead and bid on 3-4 african geese eggs. I will treat it strictly as a science project and not actually expect goslings to hatch. :)

I am now debating on whether to buy a few adult geese locally vs ordering goslings from Ideal. Here is a link to the picture of the local adult geese:

I posted a thread under geese with some questions. I am curious to see what responses I get!

OH and .. Ebay is addictive. I need to attend Ebayers Anonymous.

very very pretty!
i guess it would depend on the temperment of the adult geese.
maybe go meet them, and if they arent very friendly order babies from ideal.

I think they are good looking too! They are very similar to the ones I have now. The seller is about an hour away from my place. I just have no idea how to introduce geese. When I have done it with dogs or horses, there can be fireworks. I imagine it is the same with geese. But do they sort it out without causing major injury and then get along? With dogs, sometimes no. With horses, almost always yes. My neighbor also told me that many adult geese try to return home if relocated. Should that be a concern?

As for ebay, I've had my binges over the years usually with horse related stuff, so hatching eggs are cheap in comparison. lol

I'm not sure. Hopefully they are like ducks, and introductions are easy. Chickens are a pain, they act like the world is ending and they must kill all newcomers. My ducks have just been, someone new? Cool.
I'm pretty sure unless you have canadians adult geese, especially big one's like toulouse, aren't going to go anywhere.
Wish mine would hurry and hatch.

I left a message for the seller, so we may find out first hand what happens. I have a big property, so they will all have plenty of room to flee. :)

Country girl, that is very cool! Goslings look adorable and I hear hand raising makes a big difference. My pair were not raised with human interaction and are not pets at all.

Julie, I know the feeling. I can't wait for my ducklings to hatch!
