Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

RG, what are you going to do with all those emus!?!?

I thought Pom geese were supposed to be really sweet tempered.
My gander has been sweet so far, but this will be his first mating season, so we shall see. The gander where I work is evil, pure evil. He and both his girls rushed me tonight and they all rushed a coworker as well. Hormone season.

My chinese goose is the sweetest thing ever. Very mild mannered and almost a bit timid.

Guess it depends on the goose and the timing.

My Sebbies are very mild-mannered, too. I've noticed my gander getting a little more aggressive with the ducks and hissing at the dogs, but nothing major. He hasn't acted any different toward me so far. Hope that keeps up.

Good luck, Paulla!

My ganders turned into totally different creatures when I gave them their goslings last spring, but we were able to sorts things out with them pretty quickly and they returned to normal after a while. So far I've seen no change in behavior towards me this year with my ganders, but I expect it will get interesting at our place pretty soon.

we love ya anyway QJ knew that thing would not be off for long
I knew it too. lol
well if the ducks & chickens want to lay when it is cold outside then year sure get that bator fired up too! lol
It's just the logical thing to do right?

No shame..... Just had 6 in mine when I first got it. It was sad to see so much room and not have it full, but I filled it up quickly week by week.
That's my plan.
Its Goddess to you

WHAT?!?!? RiverGoddess?!? What happened to the zoo?
RG, GQ, Christine, Iain, now all we need is Psue!! We almost had a chat going on here!

Did someone say bacon? Hmmm.. Oh, hey RG, my step dad hit one of moms peacocks last week, and since she didn't want to waste it, they ate it. She baked it in a browning bag with 2 cans of beer poured over it. I guess it was delicious.

I'm thinking about plugging in my bator. Another lady here in KS has EMU EGGS!
You forgot QJ. Just sayin!
Hey Eyeheart!
NPIP testing on Fri @ 9 am
Woop Woop!

I have read most of these post and learned a ton and today is hatch day for us. We are newbies and this is our first hatch and just a few minutes ago our first duckling popped out. How long do we leave him in the bator before removing him?

Hi Tracey! You can leave your little in the bator for 24 hours easy. Don't pull the duckling out until you have several hatched. Any opening of the bator increases the potential for shrinkwrapping.
Congrats on the first baby! I can't believe it's only been a year since my first fuzzybutt.
