Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Thanks Celtic! I'm pretty sure it was the gray/white girl from you. Both grays still have lovely spots, which is rather interesting.

I also just bought them a new bigger pool (well, all the goose pens) which they all seem to love, even though they have to use blocks to get in.

Very fun, new pools always bring on heavy breeding here. Everyone here wants the peanut pools we sunk into the ground in various yards.

The grey/white as you call them as Splash Sebbies, gotta love the colors that white masks. We had grey dilute splash, and then one we named Tri who had two toned eyes and paired off with a blue gander for this year. She should throw interesting goslings. Your grey splash with the white gander should throw mostly whites, with some splash. Some may look white and them have a hidden spot under the wings/tails/ect. The white will cover the color back up in the new off spring. Genetics is always good fun in the geese.

So, two of the geese have the pea to dime sized spots on their necks, and about 5 visable gray feathers in ther backs visable. Your right, there is gray under their wings. So, will they maybe still have some spotted geese like themselves? I think I'll hatch the first dozen of each to see what I get. I've allowed the whites and grays (their called splash?) to all be togather.

white masks color, but two white who are both color carriers will still produce some color off spring aka Splash goslings. If you pair a splash to a grey or a blue there will more color in the Splash off spring. Paired to white it will mask the color more, but still has the chance to throw more Splash and White both.

Splash dont show as goslings though and takes growing them out into feather to see what is produced.

Today was a big day here... birds left and new birds came. I wound up with an extra gander in my dewlap yard and my production Toulouse, Chicory, was left as the odd man out. Plus, we suffered our 1st loss the other day. One of our blue scovie girls disappeared in daytime without a trace. The remaining blue girl got really depressed as the other ducks would not accept her.

So I traded a pair of dewlaps with my rescue sanctuary friend for a white fronted goose and two scovie girls. The goose is very sweet and Chicory instantly began pairing up with her. And, our blue scovy girl is thrilled to have new friends. I was bummed to see another pair of dewlaps leave, but pleased that our lonely gander and scovy girl are happy now.

We got back late and I rushed to take pics, so they are really bad. But here they are, our new goose "Beignet" and Chicory saying hello for the first time.

And our blue girl with her new buddies:
She's very pretty. Your scovy looks thrilled with her new friends too.
My new stall:

Candled my the first two Sebbie eggs and BOTH are fertile and growing! Yippee!!

I can't wait to have goose eggs going! Congrats!
My sebbies (0ne of them) laid her first egg today. I went over and checked the white africans and toulouse, but only the sebbie is laying.

I'll take it! I guess I'd better get an incubater going, to test fertility. (and I don't really mind doing a little HATCHING though)
Yay! Marty's finally going to be hatching with us. I've got turkey eggs that should be here tomorrow to add to the duck and swedish flower hen eggs in my incubator. I got my first egg from my serama's yesterday, it's the cutest little thing. So I'll be setting some of those in the near future too. I can't believe I'm getting eggs from them, they were October babies!

Thanks! She seems to fit in well here. :) Congrats on setting eggs and getting eggs from your own birds!! I'm pretty sure one of my Africans laid yesterday, but I can't find the egg. It's past time to get them penned up so I'm not going on an egg hunt.

Just got back from a trip to the Great Wolf Lodge with the family! And before we left yesterday I got 2 duck eggs, 3 chicken eggs, and 5 OHIKI eggs (1st ones of the season!!)

Hey Mrs Fluff ! You are going to be busy! I got my eggs from Lisa & DuckDogs!

Utah NICE !!! Glad you got harmony back in your flock

Thanks!! We have a few minor wrinkles to work out, but overall the flock is breaking up into cute little pairs all over the yard, which makes me happy. By the by.... I broke down and let my big 2yo buff boy be with my small 1yo buff girl. She is getting ready to lay and her eggs will be fertile...........

WooHoo! Congratulations on the first egg. I hope it's fertile. I screamed for joy when I found out both my lil eggs from Ashley were fertile.
Congrats Marty! Your first goose egg, hopefully the rest start laying soon for you too. Home grown eggs are so much more fun than shipped any day.

Aspen, congrats on the fertility and nice new stalls coming along. Have some pictures for you, will try and text them over soon. Setting all three breeds of geese and all breeds of duck weekly now, plus the pair of dewlaps that left to be shown will return soon. Oh and of course live birds shipping in everyday Tues - Sat this week, plus a few shipping out too. prepping a box to ship to Hawaii here shortly as well.
Awesome, I'll keep an eye out for them. Thanks sugar

Sounds like you're extremely busy! What color was the lil American gosling you hatched? I'm still waiting on my Buffs to lay.

Do you have any pictures of the new pools you bought? I have some smaller 15 gal pools, kiddie pools, and a larger 30 gal pools...but none of them are really big enough.

We have a small stock tank, that isn't be used for anything right now, I'm debating building a pen, beside my peafowl, and putting the stock tank in there. Then every day herd a different group of geese into it and let them have a chance to breed in the bigger, and deeper pool. I think I'll have a lot better fertility if I do this. Any thoughts on my goose playpen? LOL

My ganders are trying very hard, but they usually end up grabbing the wrong end, or the gander on the other side of the fence comes up and starts a fight through the fence. Silly boys! It's hilarious, two of my white Sebbie girls, who are paired with trouble, always have their bill into everybody's business! When ever one of the ganders tries to mount one of the girls, they go crazy! Pretty soon they have the whole clan up in arms, screaming at the top of their lungs! It's quite a sight.

Shellie, will I get diluted splashes from my pairing with Trouble? Also, what should I expect from curly white x smooth grey and lilac?

Hey girl!

Sounds like you had a good time. Congratulations on all the eggs. My highlight of the day is to gather eggs. I sure will.
