and we have one baby and counting! Yayyyyyyyyyyy

Hi thanks for the advice- 72 hours...Momma duck started sitting immediately on them when she starting laying- - does that mean some won't hatch for a week or should it still be 72 hours? Momma duck hasn't been sitting on her nest very much as she previously did either since the 3 babes were born- no other eggs pipped yet as we can tell...Will be 48 hours come tonight- Is it normal or okay for Momma not to sit as much? Do we need to worry about the temp the eggs are at? As you can tell..this is our first time!

Forgot to add a pic for you all! Momma with the 3 babies that have hatched- 24 hours old! Still more eggs...the waiting game..., if anyone could help with my questions in my above post, I'd appreciate it!

They way I understand it, mom will decide when to come off the nest and take the babies out into the world. At that point, your hatch is basically done. If you've got an incubator, you may be able to hatch a few more, but I don't bother to mess with nature. My incubators are normally full anyway.

I've got three new ducklings (two rouen and a swede) and three surprise chicks (thanks to the friend who insisted she gave me all duck eggs). I also have what appears to be the first Giant Dewlap African of the year. Poor goosie had a terrible hatch, middle pipped and stuck me with all the work.

Introducing Thelma and Louise:

Thelma is on the left and Louise is on the right. Thelma was born last night and Louise was born at 4:30 a.m. this morning. BOTH GIRLS!!!!!! And they are healthy and strong. I got to witness both hatches. They are a riot; they are eating and drinking and doing wonderful. Both eggs hatched, both chicks are strong and healthy and both are girls! I have been calling them Thelma and Louise ever since we put them in the incubator. I could not ask for more. So in love right now!!! In case anyone was wondering, I can tell they are both girls by the beak color. WH can be sexed upon hatching by beak color.

Quackers: Congrats on the baby! How are the others coming along?

Hey you, Wahey that's awesome! So cute. Yeh I have 2 now, no.2 can't stand up very well at the mo and is sleeping a lot, so hoping it's just exhausted. No.3 is causing us abit of worry it's just not really coming out, it's really cheeping and trying to move. It just looks proper wedged in. Tried to help it a little but there are still active blood vessels. No 4 and 5 are still tapping but nothing else. Grr! Here's a pic of one and 2...

Oh congrats on the two and more to come hopefully. I hope the little wobbly one just needs a nap :) It sounds like 3,4, and 5 are going to be ok; they just need a bit more time? When our second girl was hatching, Thelma was pecking on the egg trying to "help" her out. It was cute. Keep me updated on the hatch progress. And I guess you and I tied for some of our hatches!! WOO HOO!
