this is an amazing site that you can reference about candling duck eggs...if you candle the egg and it has an internal pip it's very obvious because that sweet little duck beak is sticking up in the air cell! I'm worried if the duck pipped and you've covered the whole it's not getting it's air....they pip and take days to zip out...you just have to keep the humidity really high for waterfowl....we are all waiting for this little one debut![]()
this is a better picture. It shows a big vein and the yellow is the yolk sac? I'm assuming so.
here is a side view and it looks like his face. I believe its his eye ball. That's what it looks like anyway. I wrapped him in wet paper towels because it looks like he has a lot of the egg yolk to absorb. I don't think he's quite ready to come out. But how'd the hole get there? Hmm for now I'm just going to leave him be.![]()

How I interpreted, the bill was not visible, not through the membrane, is that correct? If so, keeping the hole taped for keeping more moisture in the egg and to lessen the chance of the spread of bacteria, is a great idea. Their shells are porus, so keeping the egg smothered in tape would not be a good idea, but in this circumstance, if it is not internally pipped I would not uncover the hole.
Is the baby still thriving? Any changes in the amount it moves? Perodically, remember to check on those membranes for changes. Don't forget, if the darling did not internally pip it still may, so when you are checking the bugger attempt to check out the air sac. Watch for any changes.
You are doing a great job. Hang in there!
Oh, I am so glad to hear the baby is okay. Well, we did not have an incubator when we were forced to assist a few eggs.
They were in a storage tub, with a heat lamp above, and a humidifier next to the tub. We did have some not make it, but their eggs were crushed on one end or they were cracked on both sides of the eggs, and so on. These were the first eggs we assisted and we were totally winging it. We now have a better understanding and have assisted three successfully since without an incubator. So, anything is possible. Hopefully, the duckling will absorb the yolk fully before it starts to hatch or before you are forced to help.
Keep us updated.

70 is fine for incubating...that 90 will be great for hatching...so it's little shell got broken by accident! so covering it IS the best way to proceed...keep us up dated!!
