It's OK, if they are active, let them at it. Don't even expect a single thing before day 28, day 29 and 30 are more likely. After external pip, expect to wait (don't touch!!!) another day or so..... They are S L O W.
2 special Ladies I haven't seen for a while, What ya'll been on vacation together? LOLHey Gals!![]()
Hello there!
LOL! Marty I think she's on to us.2 special Ladies I haven't seen for a while, What ya'll been on vacation together? LOL
Great to see you 2..![]()
100* oh my gosh you'll cook those ducklings. After hatch you can put then into garage as long as temps in brooder is around 85* first week and then they have a way to get out from under the lamp if they get too warm. And make sure you secure that heat lamp. This past Feb a BYC member lost her whole barn and all her animals from a fire, now I am obsessed with safety.
after week 1 you'll want temps to drop back 5* till they are feathered in. And Marty gave sound advise Don't touch those eggs.!!!![]()
As long as you have a heat lamp and make sure to get a thermometer so you will know exactly what the temp is in the brooder under the lamp and at the far end out from under it. the digital are safer. That way you'll be able to keep up with their heating needs. Exciting time for hatching ducklings look forward to seeing the lil ones.Wow thats great news! I thought they would get too cold in there. They have a much larger pen in the garage then they do in my room too. My father is making a secure stand for the light. When I came home three out of the seven had a small hole on the top and are peeping!![]()
On a warm day with little or no wind I'd think after a week inside gaining strength they could go out for a while of foraging. You will be with them and can see how they are acting, if they are huddling they are too cool and will need to go inside, but if they are rooting around in the grass and having fun I'd say 30min at a time to start would be good for them. you'll have to see what the temps will run away from the lamp, I'm thinking if they are too cool away from the lamp they will get under the lamp. Unless your pen is so large that it covers a big area it shouldn't get too cold inside. But they will know where the warmth is, and use it as needed. If you have a really cold night and you worry about them getting too cold even with the heat lamp bring them inside for a night or 2.What should the temp be away from the light? Under the light it will be 85 degrees like Miss Lydia suggested. Would I be able to bring them outside during the day when its in the 70s to play in the grass?
