Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I'm not honestly sure. The person moved in less than a month ago. Whenever I brought home the new pair she decided it was her place to come over and comment on my animal keeping. Apparently she feels like my "barnyard" is really bringing down the neighborhood. The neighborhood has problems with robbery, drugs, and many more things I can't even mention on BYC but she wants to complain about me keeping a few birds around. I didn't even complain when her lab ran off and snapped at my small dog. Now she's even called animal control on the birds. The officer told me I had 2 weeks to rehome the chickens. At first I was honestly just considering giving up the chickens so it wouldn't turn into a big issue but this woman has really gotten under my skin. If she wants a fight then she's got one. I'm not giving up my birds that I know for a fact I can legally own in my area.

Wow you did great on the trick or treaters! I'm only up to 3 and I'm not expecting anymore. More candy for me tomorrow.

, I'm glad for this rain as well. It's the only thing that has helped keep my grass alive.

I did some rearranging of pens today and noticed I now have a huge colony of mealworms growing in the duck pen.

. As soon as I uncovered them the ducks went to town on them.
The last two years we had storms that cancelled Halloween and many people's electrical service. Prior to that, we sometimes had no visitors. But I think this year the neighbors are relieved to have normal life this time around, so they were happy to visit. Also in years past, there was a Trick or Trunk event at the school, and I don't recall seeing anything about that this year.

Oh goodness that would be quite the holiday buzzkill. I'm glad to hear you guys didn't have such terrible weather this year!

I looked and found there was a Trick or Trunk this year, so I reckon the neighbors just wanted to have fun closer to home. It was nice to see everybody.

Thanks! I've started with two but I'm sure that won't last for long.

It's nice to hear about such a nice community sticking together. I just haven't seen much of that down here anymore. I've really been considering moving up North closer to family but I'm not sure I could deal with such cold temps.

It is a tough call. I have friends both north and south of here. I think I can take the cold temperatures (I am a quarter yankee on my daddy's side) much better than the cold shoulder.

I finally got my first egg from the pair.

I'm a Vermonter - gotta be able to take the cold up here! Today it's 30 degrees with wind chill. It snowed a little for the first time this year a couple days ago, but it didn't stick. I was out it in feeding the birds. Winter's definitely coming, so I should probably finish my last coop soon :p

One of my 3 week old ducklings is sitting down a lot. When ever they stop moving she sits back down but walks and runs just fine. She is my second biggest duckling and is growing in feathers nicely. They others do not have this problem. I give them niacin in their water every day so I know they are getting it. What could be wrong with her? Should I add brewers yeast to their food too for extra niacin? Please help!

what makes you think anything is wrong? did it just start? have you checked it's little legs and feet to see if anything is sticking it or something? is it eating and drinking?
