Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

They sould be fine, he is probably lonley!

Going to check on my eggs now!

It's more the weak ducky vs strong ducky factor I'm concerned about. In a couple days they will be at the same pace. What are your eggs doing?

My question about his legs are. 1. Do I leave in an incubator or put him in brooder? 2. If he can't walk how is he gonna get to water and feed? I'm going to have to help him correct? 3. Most tape will rip his fethers out wgen removed. How about paper tape. 4. Where am I going to find those little sticks at? 5. Now the biggie... how am I going to get his to bend? I'm afraid I might break his knee.
BBL. going to stores.

Sorry to hear that your little guy needs a hand, Stillmecle.

Is he fluffed up? In that case I'd move him to a warm brooder. Check the temp under the heat lamp - you want it about 90. Don't want him too hot since he can't get about easily.

GrannyCarol has given great advice and you could also pm Duckyfromoz. She has dealt with leg issues many a time. Ask her to post her answer in this thread so we can all learn from it.

I had hoped to hear today that he was fluffy and strong, even if his legs weren't 100%. But see what you can do for him - you seem like a caring, determined and resourceful person so he is in good hands.

QuackerJack, glad that Bunsen is all fluffed. Hope Beaker plays nicely when he meets his new buddy. Just watch fur Beaker sitting on Bunsen - Beaker will want to cuddle.

As far as possibly breaking his legs, try to find a way to put pressure on the leg to go the right way, but not just immediately straighten it out. I like the idea of paperclips, if you can protect him from abrasion. If you are willing to have a pet that isn't 100%, then do your best to get one good leg, its quite possible that he'll deal with it and be able to use the really crooked one adequately.

For food and water, put him in a small container, near food and water and keep an eye on him. He's got a couple of days before he actually needs to either eat or drink, but I find they do better when they start eating and drinking earlier. Be sure his water isn't something he can blunder into and get wet and chilled. I had a duckling do that when I first put it in the brooder and had to pop it back into the incubator for another few hours until it was all warm and happy. It did fine. You will probably have to help him with food and water at first, so use your couple of days period to work that out.

Is he strong enough to hold his head up and try to move?

In meeting stops so I had to check in. Granny, he does get around in the incubator. I have not seen him tp it. But after we have cuddled and sang to each other, yes I still sing to him, he likes it.but when we are done and I put him in one spot I come back doen and he will be on the other side of the incubator. So he must scout or drag himselve arounhe is my baby I never give up. I might call one of my farm vets and see what they say
Gotta head out and get tjis stuff done so I can get back home to him. Bye
