Low humidity (dry air) increases evaporation which makes the air cell grow bigger faster. High humidity (moist air) reduces evaporation and so the air cell doesn't grow as fast.

So it's:
- air cell too big, raise humidity (to slow the growth of the air cell)
- air cell too small, drop humidity (to speed up the growth of the air cell)

I just went to the post office and posted the cards to you guys

Before that I swapped round my ducklings accommodation with one of my Swedish trios so the ducklings are not so cramped. Duck accommodation crisis averted!

Thanks 70. SM- I wouldn't raise your humidity. You said it was at 70 already. My guess is, your air cell situation has nothing to do with humidity. And it's obvious that little ducky is completely alive.. So I'd leave it be.

Just me though.

Hey- This girl that bought some cochins from me a couple weeks ago said her hatch rate started going down in her styrofoam (Little Giant) and a friend had told her that when that happens it's because the styrofoam holds the bacteria because it's a porous material. What do you think about that? That makes sense to me.

It will do that if you don't disinfect it after every hatch. It isn't that the material itself is porous, but the "balls" that make it up can have crevices for bacteria to hide.

I really cleaned my incubator well from the last hatch. From 4h I called the fowl leader and she said to use dial dish soap in it. Wash with a washcloth, rinse really good and then put it under a heat lamp. She said the heat lamp will quick dry it so other bacteria can't start and it will also kill any bacteria that is already there. Leave it under it for 24 hours then put it in a plastic bag until you are ready to use it again. So I'm pretty sure I didn't have any bacteria when I started.

Ok, that's what I'll do then. I was wondering how I was going to go about cleaning that thing.

I candled last night and have 2 babies moving around! We only have 5 more days SM!

When I turned my eggs this morning and when I went to spray them, 2 of my eggs had rolled. When I roll them I make sure the X or O is on the top. When I came back with the spray bottle, 2 of them at the O off to the side. So I went ahead and moved it back and then sprayed the eggs. I came back about half hour later and those 2 eggs had rolled again. I don't see any movement though, no rock n rolling, as DG calls it
LoL
