Are you in 4h? How old do you have to be to start showing? My eldest is going to be 7 at the end of January. I'm hoping since the roman tufted are pretty small geese she'll be able to handle them. If not, hopefully my bei are ok. I'd like to get some better quality bei than ideals, but it's hard to find someone who'll ship and I've never seen them around here.
Good luck with your drake, I don't think it's going to take you very long to develop your line of welshies.

im not yet, my mom needs to call some people to get me in, IDK how old you need to be though... ... Your romans should be a fine breed for her. Did you know holderreads ships out adult pairs? He has BEIs, maybe you could think about ordering a SQ pair from him... Alsk, did you see in the duck section theres a 2012 breeders page. Maybe you could look fir a SQ bei breeder. Im pretty sure rosecomb ryne is in there....

If she joins 4h when she's old enough and likes them I'll probably see about getting some from Holderreads. Right now, since they are just for me, I'll stick with ideal and see if I like them for now. I would get some eggs from a BYCer, or ducklings/goslings if I could find someone close enough. I can only get so many, ideal does small shipments.

Have fun with your grandkids! I'm sure there will be much to catch up on when you return.

That's wonderful. That's exactly why I would like for her to join 4h. I think she can be in clovers? now, but I wasn't sure on the age to do the more advanced stuff. That should be about perfect, right now it would be hard to have her in anything because her little sisters are almost one and just turned 2 and a handful.

In a few years maybe everyone won't run screaming if I ask them to babysit for a few hours, lol.

Qj: a SQ mallard should have a body shape that looks like a tear drop. The drakes you have nice bibs, that look nice and round, and a chesnut brown. Grey belly and all. And a long bill. They should also weigh around 2 lbs.... And hens should have nice lacing... And a stripe under the eye....

that just struck me so funny.

I just went out to let everyone out because it's nice outside and hubby's out there to scare off hawks. Both of my silkies came running out, and no chick. My poor little lonely chick I guess jumped in the ducks pool and drowned.

Today must have been the first day she took him out into the yard. She's stayed in the coop/covered run until now. I guess before I let my chickens brood again I'm going to reinforce my broody pen and keep them locked in there for 6 weeks. I just thought they'd stay warmer with the flock. I am having some really bad luck with my flock right at the moment I guess.
On the bright side, everyone is now laying fairly well, except my molting BO, internal layer RIR, was brooding a chick silkie, and my slacker EE. I guess I could keep them all locked up safe all the time, but I like having happy poultry.

Good grief. We've had a pretty crappy poultry week. Maybe we should just order something to feel better.

Hey BTW: I got an email from Ideal poultry saying when my snowy mallards would be available. Did you get an email by chance?

I'm approaching my hubby tonight about my Holderreads order. He was throwin' a couple back last night with a friend in his "man-cave". So he was quicker to say yes. Wine with dinner perhaps? And then maybe he'll help me fill out the order form!
