Loving everyone's Lavs!! JZ, those chicks are so cute they're a danger to people's health. You take lovely photos.

With that egg... If it hasn't pipped the outside yet and you can still see veins then I would not help it. It won't make it if you do. It hasn't advanced far enough. Are you totally sure that it has pipped the internal membrane (like, you can see a bill in the air cell)? At this point , I'd wait. If the hen is still sitting on it that is a good sign.

I have seen a bill in the air cell a couple times. Yup the chicken is still sitting on it, she leaves once, maybe twice a day on occasion to do her business and run a couple fast laps around the yard, then its speed eat and drink then back into the coop on her eggs. She seems to be taking such good care of them. I got to see her turn the eggs the other day, it was so cute and sweet

You will be happy to know, my patient friend, that I have held off on helping my last little ducky, despite the fact that it bears a strong sentimental value in being Edward's last true offspring. However, upon further observation, I have noticed that little ducky IS in fact zipping, just not pipping. I suspect he's holding off on breaking completely through the shell (ie: pipping) as to enhance the dramatic exit he/she will be making shortly. Hopefully tomorrow.
