Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

The third egg has pipped! The three early birds are all pipped now and several of the other eggs are rocking, so I expect we should have some babies either tonight or tomorrow. I'll post pics when I have babies born.

Happy Monday!

Nice tattoos all. Hubby has one that I designed for him. A tribute to our who passed away 2 years ago. It's a Celtic trinity knot in the middle of two Celtic dragons with our sons name.

Lots of reading to catch up, going to post some responses from what I can remember.

Candling eggs:
I candle before I set them checking for any damage to the shell.
I then candle around day 7 for geese, day 4-6 for ducks.
candle at lockdown

Feein duckings/goslings:
I feed purina chick starter as the main diet
they also get chick saver in the water for the first 3 days
I also give mashed up hardboiled eggs and cooked PLAIN oatmeal 2-3 times a week
At 1 week old they get finely chopped dark greens, mashed peas and maybe some melon

Incubating and humidity:
we are in FL so what works for us, may not work for others, but this is what we do.
humidity between 35-45% until lock down, then it is raised to 70%
goose eggs are laid on their sides the entire time
ducks ride upright in the plastic setting trays.
chickens ride upright as well.

Incubators used:
2 Brinsea Eco 20 advance
1 dickey cabinet

All incubators run in our laundry room so I can monitor them and pull hatchlings.this may change as we add more cabinet bators and hatchers.

All brooding is done in a seperate building that also houses all of our feed. It has heat and AC as well as a sink making it a great set up. We use ceramic heat elements with the brooder cages, not heat lamps. The heat elements require different housing for them, but they keep a more steady reliable temp in the brooder it faces. We also use large water bottles on each brooder in place of traditional poultry water containers. They are less messy. When we rearrange the brooders this year we will be running waterlines and placing auto waters in the brooders.

Adult call ducks and geese get Mazuri waterfowl feed, boss, and some oats along with greens and grass.

All LF ducks get purina layena, boss and some oats greens grass and what ever else they find while foraging.

The ornamental ducks (mandarins/wood) get game bird feed and scratch grains.

Peas and other treats tossed at random a few times a week. We don't have to supplement as much as those who live where winter hits since we have green grass year round.

I am still in bed and the three dogs are in bed with me and 2 of them are dreaming. They are growling and barking. Can't help but laugh at them.

Well my phone goes back again today. Yesterday they reset it back to factory and it is still freezing up on me. So back to Best Buy today. This time I will have them send it in and give me a loaner phone. I hate loner phones though. I usually get the pieces of crap that people have traded in. But I guess its a phone.
I just want my phone fixed is all and get it back to me.

I suppose I should get out of my nice warm bed, get dressed in warm clothes, get some cereal in my belly and then head out into the cold and go take care of the horses. Then take care of my phone then drop off cans, and go to the 4h center to pick up some crafts for my kids to do. Then get home and come back here. Oh wait..... must turn eggs first.
