Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

yes. it's nice out there. I'd give it 5 minutes before the hawks are swooning though.

They are THICK here today.

I'm putting them in the brooder, it wouldn't even take 5 minutes for the hawks with all the peeping. Now I just need my kids to take a nap so I can get some stuff done.

It's supposed to be 70 today. Do you all think that is warm enough for 2 week old goslings and almost 3 week old calls to go play for the day? They haven't had a heat lamp inside for a few days, so it shouldn't be that big a change. I want to get their brooder done and moved so they can go outside permanently soon, at least the goosies. I'm waiting for the calls to get bigger, although if I wait until I think they are big enough they may be inside forever, I'm not used to little ducks yet.

I put mine out at that age.... But keep an eye on them, and do it in intervals, so they get acclimated daily & can withstand more, but 70 degrees YAH (I wish I had that right now)

Thanks guys!! No extra eggs. And it was my SECOND order with them too!!!

This was her reply when I sent her pics of all the broken eggs... and showed how they broke from banging against each other:

"WOW! That IS poor shape. What on earth did they do, play soccer with the box? This wouldn't happen with FedEx. I'll check and see if there is anything that can be done. I'm very sorry. I was hoping to get SOME ducklings out of those eggs. Grrrrr. Thanks for telling me."

I try to just put them out during the day at first to give them a chance to get used to it, but I usually wait until 4 weeks except in the summer when they go straight out there. I don't usually brood geese though, and my goslings are messy and big. They need some space, lol.

What did you reply to that?

Yah I hope you didn't take it that I said full time ! Just little spurts in the beginning & keep them away from water when they go outside (at least water they can soak themselves in)

My feet are cold...... I could sure use something to warm them up.... hint hint Cocoa....

This was my reply, as I knew that Christine also received 5 broken eggs from banging against each other in her package. I got no reply from her after that:

"With all due respect, it may have something with how you are packaging them. Christine, the other buyer, also received broken eggs."

Have you replied again?
