Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I really need an assistant for candling photos. The first is woodie. I forget what day he's on, but figure I'll take a few pics in case anyone ever needs candling photos of a woodcock egg.

The picture sucks, but I can see veining in the egg and an embryo kicking around fairly easy in person. Second pic is what most of the EE eggs look like. They are still growing good, so i'm hoping they all hatch all day. Just wanted to add a weird air cell photo in with everyone elses, lol. Now I'm off to search a bazillion pages of posts so I can try to figure out what day woodie is on.

When I get home I'll take a photo of my candling torch. It has a piece of soft cylindrical foam around it that makes you can create a soft seal against the egg. I got the cylindrical foam at a hardware supply shop - it's stuff you put around copper water pipes. Got to get the right size but it fits around the end of an LED torch like the one you are using, Julie. Makes candling easier as all the light goes into the egg, rather than shining round the outside.

Well, candling regular will work like with the others. Wait for the air cell to tip, and i gues you'll be there. Watch for the internal pip. Looks good, though. I sure hope he gets here ok. I think all of us, espcially QJ will appreciate a nice woodcock pic. Dont you think??? LOL

I would love to get more colors eventually. Three of my hens are black or black pied and one is blue fawn(I think). One drake is silver pied and the other is mostly blue. So babies should come out blue, black or pied in blue or black I think.

Hi Wulf! Good to see you. Love your muscovy mama. I've got 7 eggs (7 of 7 from ebay) with spiders in teh bator. From liliac, pied, and chocolates.

Cocoa - you use english or metic? I can proboly give measurements in mL if you need. Otherwise, cups and Tablespoons.

I make in sheet pan. spray pan and put a wax paper cut to fit into bottem of pan. ovet this, put 1/3 c. melted butter, spread it around with your fingers or a spoon. Sprnkle about 2 fat tablespoons (2 handfulls) of brown sugar over this. Drain a can of pineapple rings. Save juice.

Use 1 box yellow cake mix, and for water use 1/2 water, 1/2 juice. Use 3 eggs and 1/3 c. oil.,1 pinch ginger, 2 pinch cinnimon, mix togather until smooth (2 min med on mixer, or 200 hand strokes w/ a spoon).

Put drained pineapple rings more or less neatly and evenly over bottem of pan. if you want, add drained cherries to center. Pour cake mix over this, and bake at 350 @ 35 minutes, or until sides of cake pull away from pan evenly (or toothpick or knife stuck near center comes out clean). Let cool 10 minutes. Flip pan over onto a large plate, platter, rack, or flat sheet pan. lift by edges of pan, gently shaking to remove cake. peel off wax paper, using knife to keep pineapple and cherry in place.

Quick and Easy Pineapple cake. (I really like the slow one, but if you don't bake much, this is the way to go)

Hey Celtic, whats your receipe???

saved... we need a byc cook book!

I just went outside to lock everyone up. Ducklings and goslings did not make it to the coop on their own again. After 20 minutes of looking for them I found them all laying next to the back door. Guessing it got dark so they just headed to the light. They followed me and my flashlight halfway back, then once we got through the gate to their yard they took off running ahead of me. So I think they know where to go, and I need to install some solar lights by the gate and door to the coop for them.

I should go buy those, and order lots of the LEDs they fit, and sell them as custom sizable candlers. (you know, quail, chicken, turkey, duck, goose....) Just include one light, and one of the rubber fittings for every egg size. We'll call it Cocoas Candle Kit.... Its got a nice ring too it!

Or, maybe you should??
