Hi Everyone - I have been lurking for a few days and wanted to say this is an awesome group. Everyone has so much knowledge. I have about 40 duck eggs incubating and will definitely be asking lots of questions in the near future. I purchased a LG incubator and mistakenly have been putting them in there as our ducks laid them, not realizing you could save them. Per another member's advice, I purchased another still air LG for hatching.

My first question is we forgot to write the dates on some of our initial eggs, there are 9 from a three day period of 3/1-3/3. I have some from 2/28-2/29 that will be moved to the hatching incubator starting Saturday. When would you move the next 9 eggs that were laid and put into the incubator (same day) during 3/1-3/3? I have been candling but still don't know everything about it. Also can someone give me the link to the incubating / hatching guide that is referenced a few times in your posts?

Thanks!!

Good morning,

Thanks for the fun reading last night! Too much to comment on....

CG, hopefully if your ducky is not going to make, he will pass on his own. I'm sorry. :(

Dutch, I know a dewlap seller, but her eggs are $25 a piece, plus shipping.... dewlap eggs are not cheap!

Sue, you really do have hatching geese down!! You go woman!! :)

Celtic, how's your hubby doing? And... of course, almost as important... (almost)... how are the toulouse babies doing?? ;)

Julie, there is a listing in my local online classifieds for quail hatching eggs by a licensed hatchery. Shipping available. I can find the link for you, if you want.

Marty, how are your pekin babies doing?? My pidgey eggs have not internally pipped, but it looks like the fluid is resolving a touch. I still have serious doubts these eggs will hatch. My ancona eggs are whacking at the shells... you can hear the shell getting hit hard and a couple of times hubby and I distinctly heard that sweet shell cracking sound... but I do not see any raised dimples yet. I'm a little surprised, but not worried. It is only day 26. Perhaps my cooling routine with this set has added the 1/2 day to schedule.... which would be a more normal 28 day schedule. My day 22 ancona eggs are rocking and I'm seeing the air cells dip. Both bators are coming alive! It is so cool!

Ian....you are tempting me greatly! Where in the country are they located? Wondering how far a trip they'd have to make.....

Duck eggs take 28 days, so on day 25 they go lockdown. If you eggs were placed 3/1, they would go down today. If your needing to put all from 3/1-3/3 in, I'd do it tomarrow (the23 - JULIES BIRTHDAY) and divide the difference between the three.
Ah! Bad math! 25 + 1 is 26 - not hte 23rd! GJ is right, my bad totally!

Hey Sbost! Welcome to BYC! I'd move the second set on the 25 or 26th. How eggciting. 40 eggs! What kinda ducks do you have?

Well, I can't vouch yet for fertility % as they have only been baking for 4.5 days. But it is looking promising! The sellers are in central Cali. There is another byc member in CT who recently reported 75% development in her 4 eggs.

Morning all.
Yesterday was weird email day around here. Had two "customer" emails asking about buying eggs and ducklings.
The duckling email was someone wanting to pick up ducklings. So let them know what we had just hatched, price, and when they could pick up. They responded wanting to know of there was a return policy incase they didn't work out, and if we would replace dead ducklings. Both struck me as odd, but responded we will accept returns and we do not replace animals because once off the property we do not know how they are cared for. Never had another email.
The hatching egg email asked when we could ship. So I responded with what breeds were avai
Able, and how many could be shipped and when. They ask of we will replace eggs for them until they get enough to hatch. So I tell them shipping hatching eggs is risky, how waterfowl in general are quirky to hatch and we ship extras when available to help cover losses in shipping. They then insisted we must replace any egg that doesn't hatch so they can have X number of ducks. I explained I can't do that, but could hatch for them and ship X number of live ducklings. I got told we were trying to screw them over by not replacing all unhatched eggs. I also was told we were a scam for not posting our address on the farms site. Uumm no, as long as my husbands active duty I can not legally post our address, as it's against OPSEC. I place it on all outgoing boxes. I will give it privately for payments, but can't publish it.
CG sorry about the third duckling, totally understand how you are feeling.
Iain, you goose hatching fool. Hubby is doing OK, long recovery to get stamina and speech back.
Wrong way goose and the right way internally pipped are going strong. Should have atleast one hatched by tomorrow.

I have never, ever put my address on a website. I don't like unannounced visitors, and I'm a single mother so I refuse to just put that information out there. Besides...I'd hate to waste ammo on some idiot that thought he could sneak up on me!

I do a pretty good job of listening to my gut instinct, too.
