Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Qj u will love it. CAlls for light cool whip but you could use any. And the 2 apple types give u bites of sweet and sour.
I'm going to make it for Easter. That sounds yummy.

Thanks for the advice! I'm a pretty serious assisted hatcher, so I will keep an eye on them. The fatter ones were still pointy enough that I could tell which end was which. They were awkward in the turner, but such is life.

Not to freak you out or make you paranoid. I just think there's something about more rounded eggs that makes them harder. That's been my experience anyway.
Both of mine managed an internal pip a little behind the others, and then the one I helped is just super tiny. Teeny teeny tiny. Half as small as the others. We call him runty.

QJ, I am excited to hatch celtic's SA egg in a few days. I am told they are the fattest and calmest of all breeds, except maybe pekin.

Marty, I think you are doing well with Lucky. Maybe set some super wet mash in bator or mash up hard boiled yolk. Otherwise, stick with sugar water and get some polyvisol for him tomorrow.

just out of curiosity what is a SA?

Silver Appleyards??

Good morning!

Ebay bidding announcement... I am bidding on the silver appleyard eggs sold by dprather. There is another bidder p****p. Hope I'm not bidding against any of you, because I need duck eggs to set with my new toulouse eggs, and hubby wants SA instead of cayuga!!!

Hatching announcement: 5 of the ancona eggs have beaks against shell, getting ready to externally pip. 3 more look to be internally pipping still. 3 are unsure so they are in goose bator so I can keep an eye on them. Lockdown has officially begun and I am raising humidity to 70+% now. So far, everything looks great!

Goslings insisted on coming inside once it got dark, even with heat lamp on outdoor pen. But as soon sun rises, they go back outside... as they are beating the crap out of each other when they get bored.

Morning Iain - Happy bidding! Good Luck on your eggs. Nobody else has mentioned bidding thus, so go for it. You know how it is, some still bid against you, the just don't advertise it. So who knows??

Morning Peeps!

Lucky lives on. He can't really stand, seems a little slow on using his R.leg, and a little weird about his head, but overall is stronger, and I found two poops on his paper towel, which I consider to be apositive. If that part didn't work, the rest was wasted effort. He is moving about the bator, however he's doing it. Still sleeps and rests a lot, but I'm sure is holding his head up a bit better.

He is still getting drink of sugar water (I just dip his beek, and he's going for it). I will be making a watered down mash in an hour or two, when he gets his brooder. I have button quail going on lockdown tonight, so gotta clean up, sterilize, and see if I can get my still air gova to get to and hold a temperature of 99.5. So far, not w/o a fan.

Maybe I just need to give it longer.

Morning all.

Iain good luck with the bidding. Like Marty said some will bid against you just for the sake of doing so.

Marty offer some mashed egg yolk also from a hardboiled egg. Always a great system boost for struggling new ducklings.

Marty, I am still thrilled for the updates on Lucky! I have a feeling he will pull through great, since it sounds like he is making slow but steady progress. It took Tink almost 36 hours to get her legs and wings facing the right direction... and even then I wasn't sure she would thrive for another day or two. But ironically she is the best looking (from an objective breed standard perspective), smartest and calmest duck of all my ancona babies.

If you can get to a store (walgreens, walmart, riteaid) and pick up polyvisol drops (without iron)... that would really help!

I WILL get these SA eggs... the only question is how much I will potentially overpay for them. lol

I wish Christine would let us know what happened with her "take a chance" babies!!! I'm SO hoping she was able to have a good hatch!!
