No, the swedish have been gone for a while so not a part of this breeding. Another thing is the tips of the wings are yellow. So should we wait for him to totally dry to remove from the incubator or wait until tomorrow? He has not slept since hatching a few hours ago... just keeps moving around. He almost follows us through the incubator windows asking to come out! We have other eggs incubating that are due in 2 days so I want to remove him and his mess properly to not mess them up.

I would wait til he was completely dried so he doesn't catch a chill. But whatever you think is best. Sometimes I'm afraid they will burn their heads on the heating element, if he's walking around like that.

Oh, he hit his head so many times in the beginning on the heating element but kept moving around and is now sitting down in another corner wobbling fighting off sleep. He was trying to get into a bowl of water we had in there so we removed it. It has about 3 inch high sides and I thought it would be high enough but we are not going to chance it with this guy. He hasn't gone near his hatching area... seems to prefer a clean area? We will definitely try and wait until he is dry.

Congratulations!! Your Pekins must be hiding some black genes and bibbed genes. White hides other colours.

Looks like a little cutie!!! Definitely wait till he fluffs up before taking him out.

Love it!!!

Here are two of my Anconas that hatched yesterday! The one laying down looks dark chocolate. I'm not sure about the one standing up. At first I thought he was all yellow, but around his face he does have some very light brown markings. My daughter named them Pickles and Snuggles. I still have one in the incubator that I helped halfway out, but he wasn't ready. I had one die in the shell yesterday morning and I was afraid the last one would die, too.

Is there anything you can do if you jumped the gun and hatched before they were ready? I rinsed off the bottom of the incubator and put him on a soft cotton cloth and kind of rolled up another one around him. He seems to like to feel snuggled up like that. Is there anything else I can do for him?

It's officially named "Early Bird". We got home just in time to see it hatch out... this was from a pekin egg. What does this look like to you guys? We do have a khaki campbell male and a mallard male but it reminds me of a blue or black swedish. Would be great, we have lost all of ours to predators. It's very active and 3 days early... was put in the incubator on 2/29.

I know why my ducks were missing now!!! One of the hens is making a nest! YAY! She has a cute little nest, with 3 perfect little eggs in it, wish i knew where the other hen was laying her eggs!! That way i could slip them in her nest... I just hope the goats don't mess with the eggs!!!

Well..... just on an impulse... I put a super low bid on some saxony eggs. I was the only bidder and won them for $5. Seller emailed me and said she has 14 and will add 1-2 if they lay more in morning before she ships them out tomorrow. Whoops.... hope I like saxonies!

The appleyard auction is almost over... and so far I am still the high bidder. Guess I will have a full bator again in a few days!

ETA: just won the SA eggs. QJ, I told seller you recommended me.
