Update: The one I pipped at 15.5 hours ago is now trying to move to get his beak out of hole on its own. The one I pipped 3.5 hours ago is still breathing well.
I have one egg that is showing staining in air cell. The rest appear to be externally pipping on schedule.... except for the SA of course, which is a day behind the others.
Yeah, he had dubbed them Bessemer. There (ather confusingly) is a new Bessemer project that I am going to be taking part in, crossing BOs, Runners and Rouen to get a WBB breed, which we will name Bessemer, since that's a great name (but really shouldn't be applied to the aforementioned ducks). The last I saw of DaBh was a thread about his underpants. He apparently got suspended for that *facepalm*...I've heard of them! He talks about his breed of whatever... totally know who you're talking about. Last thread I read some people were ripping him a new one.
I know it is hard asking you guys to advise on things when you don't have all the factors... anyway I just candled the egg on the left again with the dark blotches and yellow ring around the air sack and saw good chick movement inside like what I would expect at 26 days old. I smell the egg and it did not stink but also had yellow discoloration on the bottom like where it might have absorbed some of the hatching chick fluids. So I am going to let things be.
On another note, I made a startling conclusion today. About two weeks ago I found our buff female drowned in our pond in the early am. No predators marks... she was floating belly up. I had heard about turtles drowning them and thought definitely not those sweet little turtles I see sunning on our duck docks... well look what I saw coming out of our pond a little while ago. No kidding, these are bigger than footballs.![]()
And I thought we only had to worry about the bobcats, foxes and coyotes at night. We just nursed our male snowy mallard back to health after my husband interrupted a bobcat attack with his shotgun... that little snowy is tuft.
Great.
We have snappers in our pond the size of small trash cans.
Amazing as it may be.... both eggs I internally pipped appear to be improving. The blood on the one I pipped 14 hours ago is receding and the yolk sak is getting smaller too. Its heart is pumping strong. I do not have to strain to see breathing/pulsing on the one I pipped a couple of hours ago.
Chicken Crazy- I found you on FB. Recognized you from your email. I'm slow on the upload sometimes.
I cannot believe these two eggs are still going. I have no idea what the next step will be with them either. I am not a fan of day 26.... it is so stressful.
Latest update: Both eggs are still alive. Things are drying up nicely in the egg I pipped 17 hours ago. Heart still beating strong. The egg I pipped 5 hours ago is continuing to try to get his beak out.
Amazing!
That's right. And everybody was jumping him. I kinda felt a little sorry for the guy. (but not for his underpants)Yeah, he had dubbed them Bessemer.
