Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Awesome news, Jaz!

As far as cremation prices, it is hard to put a price on sentiment and attachment. All of my pets will wind up in an engraved box, including my horses.

So, my last Ancona is out and resting. I think he will be just fine! I have freed the silver apple head and so far, so good!

I feed the Mazuri, too. My ducks love it. My feed store ran out for a couple days and I tried feeding regular old layer crumble to them until I got more Mazuri. They ran to the food and then just looked at me like "Hey, we thought you were coming to feed us! Where's our food?!?"

There is zero waste. I feed the maintenance floating pellets and they gobble every last one when I dump it in their water bowl. If my ducklings don't eat all my Mazuri starter, I'll have some leftovers if anyone in the Puget Sound area wants it. I don't know--will 8 ducklings eat 25 lbs of starter in 4 weeks?

20% can be fed, but should not for their entire life as it will lead to angel wing deformatees easier. 20% until 4-5 weeks then transition to grower feed until 8-9 weeks old then onto adult feed.
We feed Mazuri to all of our waterfowl. They make a starter, grower , layer and maintenance. It is wonderful feed, little no waste, less is more when feeding and their feathering is amazing on it.

Here is my bator.... hoping the 3 internal pips can get out on their own when ready. Hoping to leave the SA egg alone for at least a few more hours.

Chicken, not sure about last week's set, but this set took a heat/humidity beating during last week's hatching when I was trying to save an egg. This time around, I was better about remembering to micro-manage the other bator when steaming up room to hatch these guys.

They look dead when they're resting at this stage. Freaks me out every time. Is all that blood from one you helped? *yikes*
That would freak me out quite a bit too!

Great job!

so my ducks started laying feb 6th, and since then i have gotten 88 eggs.

Wow! How many do you have? I'm getting 11 a day from 17 ducks. They need to all get to work so I can have them pay for their feed!

Morning all,
Iain GREaT job! You did it slow and steady and looks like you have a nice set of new ducklings. If everyone is free enough to breath then get some rest you had a very long nite.
Out of all of the 2/29 set goose eggs 4 are about half a day behind the others right now. Massive aircell dips over night in the rest and lots of shadowing and pushing this morning. Hoping the 9 Khaki eggs speed up some so I can take over the large hatcher.

Hooray for goosies! I'm hoping my 2 geese hatch successfully. I'd hate to have one by itself.

Thanks Celtic! I had to help the egg the is cut off in the front of the picture. The membrane was stuck to his back and could not break fre. So, I hatched him out completely. The first internal pip egg is hatching out now.

I so want to go to sleep.... but with 3 eggs to go.....

You should get some rest. You deserve it. Never thought duck midwifery would be so much work.

G'Morning! My BO hen is in to egg eating! Isn't that sarcsastically wonderful?! Cake looks yummy!

We call Blue Mallard Blue Fawn up here in canada, too.

And I doubt DaBh will ever try anything like that again. I hope. BYC will probably see a new Bessie thread in a few years, when the Bessemer project is completed, but he probably wont like it! :P We are trying to do a three color project: WBB, Blonde, and WBG with the new Bessies. He wont like that either.

An egg eater? Oh no! That's a hard one to break them of!

Good morning!

Woke up to a injured duck today! He has a gash in his foot, and i think in his belly, URG!

How is your boy now? Make sure to watch for infection and flystrike.

so we have to do an informative speech in class.
any guesses on what i plan to do it on???

if you said DUCKS you are correct =)

I wouldn't have guessed. LOL.

I've got eggs rocking!!!!

I love it when they start rocking! Took a little peek at my Call eggs last night and I'm seeing babies! Woohoo!

Hooray for call ducklings!

Hey guys... up from a short but much needed nap. I moved the first 7 to brooder and have the 2 remaining internal pippers and my SA left in the bator. Trying to keep humidity up at 80 or higher to avoid worse sticking of SA baby to shell. I am still planning to wait a few more hours before continuing to hatch it out. Hoping the internal pippers finish absorbing the yolk and finish hatching out ok.

Glad you managed to get a nap in. I think I got6 hours of sleep in two days with my last batch. I don't look forward to that again.

Was it a nice long multi quote catching up post? My short one's never get deleted, dd waits until I've spent 30 minutes typing trying to say hi and answering everyone then she deletes.

I lose one of those long ones recently. At that point, I just went to the end of the thread and typed HI!

maybe you shouldnt get drake eggs I am new to ducks but I thought a drake was a boy

Drake eggs are very rare. Sorta like Goose Milk.

I was told you ladies woul dbe able to help me. i hope you can!!!! I have two call duck eggs that have been wiggling since saturday in the morning, It has been three days that they have been rocking and I still don't have a pip or anything. Should I tap a hole in it to get then started? I don't want them to suffocate. I don't mean to sound like a spas but I have been hand turning them since I set them and I am kind of attached to them. So I hope someone can help with some advice. thanks Jess

I would candle, see where bill is and pip for them. Calls seem to have trouble with the external pip.

Speaking of which, for those who might know, do all bantams struggle or is it unique to calls?

Oh, and someone is coming to get my 3 mix bred ducks, they will probably back out to, just like everyone else does "oh, they cost to much for me" ($10 for 3 ducks, is that a bad price?) "oh, i live to far away" (10 miles!) Oh, my fence ins't done yet (OK, thats a good exuse)

No. Hold out for your 10 bucks GF. Excuses are fine though. They are people you wouldn't want to sell them too anyway.

I feed the Mazuri, too. My ducks love it. My feed store ran out for a couple days and I tried feeding regular old layer crumble to them until I got more Mazuri. They ran to the food and then just looked at me like "Hey, we thought you were coming to feed us! Where's our food?!?"

I gotta find this stuff. TSC doesn't have that here.

Actually, maybe Julie knows where I can get some. She's the feed girl.

Doesn't look like my 12 eggs are fertile. Someone tell me how to correct this problem. Should I get him a movie or some mags or something? Maybe a blow up duck with some red lipstick on?

Quote: He can get flydtrke from a bandaged foot injury? I knew he could get a infection, but I'm changing it once a day, and making sure all is well. Hes in my "rehad" center (AKA broody shed LOL.... hes hanging with broody mama...)

I was gonna keep all three (boys and girl) But i caught one of them breeding another hen, so i decided they need to go, since i have no other pens to keep them in. And no body wants just 2 drakes, so i had to sell the hen too.... Someone emailed me 1 hour after i posted too! I'm gonna call him tomorrow.
