Hi everyone. I was trying to catch up. I have family visiting this weekend. I sold the 8 of 10 ducklings I was hoping to sell
wee.gif
, although being the first ducklings I have had hatch it was a little painful to see them go. My husband has fallen in love with one of the ducklings so hopefully it is a girl because we do not need any more drakes and we love the two we have. Of course he told me not to name them because we were not going to keep any but then he went and named his favorite duckling Quackers... hehehe the duck love is spreading
they'er so contagious .....it's worse then the flu....

Hey Wulf!

We're taking the humans on a picnic at a nearby lake. Wish me luck keeping the 3yr old completely clothed and out of the lake.

OMG ya'all. I just saw my roo try to get some from my EE hen. He was closer to her head than his intended target.

Won't be getting any fertile eggs that way.

Wish I would have had my camera with me then.

Catching up again!

Latest progress... african pretty much kicked shell off right after I took this pic... this is where I am at now:

Go little goosies!

Here is my Day 31, 7am picture update:

The toulouse are starting to wake up... as soon as my african gets his legs under him better, I will move him to his temporary brooder box and continue working on my toulouse babies.

Aww. What a sweet goosie!

Morning all...
DG you did what was best last night
Dutch.... Yep they will be on their way Monday for sure to avoid the Easter end of week rush.
Iain catching up on your over night hatch. Sorry about the loss, but good going with the others.
The pictures of the 4 SA ducklings is two boys (both dark colored) and two girls (both light colored). SA can hatch dark and be a girl, but won't adult feather dark and be a girl. The darker (almost mallard/Rouen look) is male, even the heads are dark. The girls are always light and look like they are wearing Willma Flintstones dress.
Today is no hatch day, the last two Sebbies were out this morning and now drying. Have the new open air chicken pens to work on, baby lambs to go see and laundry. I need a maid so I can focus only on the critters and kids.
lol.png

Maid = good. I could use one too!

I did thankfully catch a 90 minute nap right after African hatched out. Hubby stood vigil over bator so I could sleep.

What a great hubby letting you get a nap! I need a nap today after a sleepless night and a trip to work today. Had something that needed to be dealt with.

My African has been moved to his own special box in bathroom. I dipped his beak in vitamin sugar water and he drank nicely for me.
I took just a touch more off the one Toulouse shell. I think he can free his head now. The other one looks ok without having to take more shell off. He has gotten his wing out and has decent movement with his head. I keep hoping the backwards baby can zip on his own. He looks to be positioned right, just facing bottom, not top side up.

Great progress! You're getting good with the assisted hatches, though I'm sure you wish they'd just do it on their own!

so here a the newest together

I'm near sold out for the upcoming hatch. Actually, I'm a bit oversold so there's going to be sleepless nights in my future.

Good luck with that.

This is what I do to cull my quail. It's really hard on me, but is the easiest method for them. I hold them until they are calm, then take pruning shears and lop off their heads as fast as possible.

When I had snakes I'd take the mice and put them in a pillowcase and slam it into a wall or floor as hard as I could. Might work for chicks too. Rats I'd break their neck similar to the broomstick method with a bigger bird, but downscaled to a ruler and the edge of a counter.

Not cruel at all DG. It was the nicest thing you could do for him I think.

Speaking of pocket, If my little squirrel makes it would you mind if I name her Pocket in honor of your duckling?

droolin.gif
I need to make some. I like mine with lots of pineapple, and usually use a can of crushed pineapple along with the rings.

Those are adorable! I need to get some mini appleyards.

Fiona's darling. Miss my little babies, now I have huge sweet babies.

Good luck! We are supposed to go to Branson and stay at table rock lake in June. I am dreading it. A week of trying to keep 1 and 2 year old happy and clothed and not drowning sounds like my idea of hell right now. Trying to talk hubby into taking the girls and going and I'll stay home and get a real vacation.
Yes, please name your baby after Pocket! A rescue squirrel is a nice living tribute to my little duckie!

Eating more upside down cake for lunch. I was ravenous after my morning.

My backwards baby is zipping on his own!!!!! The other two are pushing hard to free their heads. Hopefully it won't be long now!

My wonderful ducks laid an egg in the darn poool. Grrrrrr!

My ducks are getting friendlier. 3 of the calls will now come get their peas from my hand, along with the geese. The 2 big scaredy cat ducks still won't, but will sneak under my leg and behind my back right next to me to get the peas, as long as I don't make any moves in their direction.

My first baby toulouse hatched out perfect at 11:45am, all by himself!

And here's my african baby in his little brooder pen... 10 hours after hatching:

My next toulouse baby has commenced zipping (even though half the shell is off). The final toulouse baby is resting and gearing up for zipping.

Teeny egg. Would take about 10 dozen to make an omelet I think.

Momma, Aunt, and babies. Other silkie has given up. This one is determined to help raise the chicks.

That is a teeny egg!

Newflash! Toulouse #2 is hatched out! Poor thing tried to zip but got stuck halfway around in membrane on its beak. So I helped him out. Then he couldn't push out... so I chipped away a little more from him. Then, he was stuck on his lower back, so I made him stay in long enough to moisten everything out... then, he hatched all by himself.

3 hatched.... 1 to go!!!!!!!!!!!

celebrate.gif

Wow... baby #4 (my 219gram toulouse) did not want to be left behind.... he's out with only a teeny bit of help from me. And he is HUGE!!

It's done!

Sweetness! Exciting!

Three freshly hatched toulouse babies:

Wow. I think I'm in love!

Had to go (graphic)

cull some Muscovy drakes that were humping the chickens at work. That will not be tolerated, so 5 Muscovy drakes now have an appointment with our smoker.
Hate it, but it's for the health of our chickens, so it had to be done.

Quoted wrong part. Little squirrel is now Pocket. She is doing wonderful.

I had to pull out a turkey egg and Woody. Both started weeping. Still have 7 turkey eggs rocking, and less than a week to go. Also have clear embryo in 10 of 12 of CG's call eggs, and the other 2 I can see something starting to form, so hoping they are just slower developers.

ha ha ha my drake was doing that too
