Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

he is a fighter. but that is just making me more attached =/

and the ad was someone wanting to rehome their 3 yr old mastif who is neutered.
they say he suddenly turned aggressive.
so he would be a good gaurde dog .. blah...blah.blah
That sucks for the dog...probably due to stupid people.
My little grey is worrying me now. I gave it some sugar water, and it actually dabbled in it, lol. It hasn't opened it's eyes yet, and just isn't as strong as it was.

So I am feeling very bummed about how things are turning out with me getting buff babies this year from Carole. She has a month-old boy available that would work IF Barley is a girl, but not sure she has any buff girls if Barley turns out to be a boy. She believes she killed every last buff baby in her incubator and her girls have stopped laying. I will call my bird dvm in the morning to see if I can get all my dewlaps vent sexed this week. Obviously, I'm hoping and praying Barley is a girl!!

In the meantime, my cayuga egg is turning and moving. Plan to put it in lockdown tomorrow and if it hatches, it will be Sat/Sun, but I have no babies to brood it with.

In ducky news... hubby and I built an 8x8x4 shelter for excess drakes today and sunk posts for 8'x20' run. Will get that fenced in the morning and am excited to move them over. The end of run is the cross fence into pasture and we plan to cut open ducky hole once transitioned to let them get into pasture.

ETA: Is it horrible of me that I don't really want this cayuga to hatch?
Is Barley hanging down underneath yet? Getting any feathers? Simon has jumped ahead of Marcel in size, and hangs down underneath a lot...real saggy like. He looks like he needs to pull up his pants. Post an updated pic of Barley...I'll see what I can do about posting one of Simon. Barley is older than Simon, so we can do a comparison. The last pic I saw of Barley, I was thinking girl...don't know why.
And the cayuga is going to hatch because you don't care one way or another, lol. The ones you want to hatch don't.

So.... I may have a trio of buffs to be shipped to me next week after all. Carole has 2 girls/1 boy adolescents. She is double checking dates of hatch to make sure they are same age or younger than Barley and sending me a pic with a hatchling for size comparison.

Still no baby to brood solo cayuga with if it hatches, although it is moving strong on day 25. I have the hatcher fired up and plan to move it later tonight or first thing in the morning.

SM, it has the toulouse stance like mine, but looks maybe buff? My guys' feathers are a very distinct grey, not tan.
That's awesome! I was getting bummed for you...

Hi everyone! Just passing through, but had to say hello.

Hello SM, QJ. GC, DG, Kevin, Celtic, Iain, and Jazz -

Today I put the little "Quacky Campbells" in with the goslings in an outdoor grassy pool area for daytime.

Heres the "mixing It" pic.....

They look quite happy with their pool! Cute babies, Marty!

It's nice to get them outside for a while isn't it? I wish the weather would improve so I can stick the brooder crew outside during the daytime.

I lost a baby chicken

I went out to gather babies up to put them away and one of my little polish chicks is gone. Its a black one with a white cap. Has anybody seen it? I have looked everywhere for it.
I'll keep an eye out for it, but if it makes it this far, that's one special chick! I hope you find your baby!

Here is some more of my "babies" that aren't so little any more.

Look at the weird looking ancona too. Strange isn't it

So my bad hatch is still going... kinda. One pipped and living out of 11.

My next hatch locks down on Friday. At least solo baby won't be alone for long. Assuming some silky ducklings decide to hatch for a change.

Barley is way sagging and getting a dewlap too! He/she has a lot of wing feathers coming in and is losing the fuzz on neck. I will get a pic in the morning and post.

I bought the trio tonight and will be shipped on Tuesday! They are 3-4 weeks old and smaller than barley, so I think they should get along ok. :D

I hear ya about the Cayuga hatching, but I am not killing myself to help it. Either it makes it on it's own, or it doesn't. And with my luck, it will hatch and be a boy.

Hope your grey improves!

Hmmm...maybe Barley is a boy afterall. Marcel is not sagging, but sort of has a dewlap starting. She is a little older than Simon, but he is HUGE compared to her. I'm glad Carole has buffs for you! I was getting worried for you! I put the new buff girl in with the others today, and no one paid her any mind, lol.
I took some cell phone pics while I was doing chores...waiting on them to get to my email. I can get pics of the group together, except for Maddie. She's always in her own little world, sort of like an Autistic child.....she's a mess!
