The humidity in the bator now is at 78%. I did not humidify the room first.

But the egg was out for about roughly 8-10 minutes and as soon as I candled and than made the small hole I put it straight in the bator. I also wanted to point out that I can hear his beak up against the shell every once in a while.

Oh and I'm not exactly sure when the duck internally pipped. I quit turning it on the 25th day and didn't mess with it at all. I've been keeping an eye on things and he's been moving around in there, fervently since the 27th day.

How long ago did it internally pip? How many hours ago did you externally pip it? If it has been 48 hours since internal pip and 24+ hours since you externally pipped it, you may want to consider opening it up a teeny bit to check for shrink wrap. If you do, you will want to mist it with warm water to prevent shrink wrap.

What kind of incubator? Fan or no fan? What temp did you incubate at?

Im pretty sure that it has been 48+ hours since it internally pipped and only 13 hours since I externally pipped. Would I be able to candle the egg to check for shrink wrap? It is a styrofoam cooler no fan right now, I have a fan that I put in there for the first couple of weeks. But I also have vent holes in it, that are closed up right now. I incubated at 99.5, sometimes when I misted the eggs the temp would go down to about roughly 96 but would go up rather quickly after the mist.

Sometimes you can tell by candling. There is a weird shadowing you will see. Usually, I make a peep hole in shell enough to shine flashlight inside to look. 13 hours is not so long. However, since it is day 30, it is a red flag that there may be trouble hatching.

Well, I think that I will go ahead and get everything set up and try to stretch open the external pip a bit to see what I can see. From what I could tell from looking in it last night, I'm pretty sure he's already absorbed his yolk sac already, if everything looks okay I'll put a luke warm water soaked paper towel around it, give it a little bit more of a chance to get out by itself.

Lots to do in birdland today. Most important, No. 1 is doing much better!! Starting to pace the pen and honk more.... which means she's feeling better! Probably will keep her locked up until tomorrow though, as I don't want her moving too much and aggravating injury site.

My trio of buffs are leaving today... express.... good chance I will get them by tomorrow!

Hubby and I will move bachelor drakes one more time into pasture and separate the breeding pairs from the youngsters. What a pain. If this does not work, we may find ourselves offering duck dinners to our closest friends.

We are also seriously considering turning the toulouse out with the africans. Pappa Gander loves them, but the africans act like jealous teenagers. I'm sure there will be scuffles among the youngsters. Just not sure if the toulouse are big/tough enough to handle it. The toulouse are 10 weeks and africans are 15 weeks. However, ultimately I only want to keep the dewlaps on house property using my side yards for daily turnout and the garage pens for overnight. But I guess I can always set up a 3rd turn out yard and garage pen if necessary.

Glad to hear that #1 is doing well. Yay! Babies are on their way!!!
