Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Marty, what do you have hatching?

Speaking of hatching, HEY JAZ!!!! How are your fancy eggs and your own cayuga stock eggs doing??
I have not candled them ~ Keeping bator closed except for LD & hatching. I think I fractured my RIGHT wrist ~ SO typing is very slow. So short posts & I cannot reply to all posts ~ or I won't ever get off dat azz! My CAYUGAS are doing awesome.

I bought 5 dozen OHIKI chicken eggs, 70 Ancona, another auction of Swinehoe Pheasant, and just bought an auction of Edwards Pheasant. A few dozen of Khakis. 50 Welsh, Blue Swedish, Pekin, Cayuga eggs (all together)

My Cayuga eggs are fertile !!!!!! I will be hatching some soon! Only had to toss 5. Not bad for first eggs layed.

Shannon, Beatrice is such a fighter!! I am pulling for her!! Please keep posting updates!!

Hope your wrist is not fractured and gets better soon.

Sorry I meant the post about preferring the company of ducks and ducklings to a gathering of strangers!

Hey guys! Just poppin' in to say "Hello" again. I hope all is well and I really don't have the patience to go back and read all the posts.

Beatrice is holding her own. The vet did not see the need to flush her out again yesterday evening. She did another fecal exam and found no infection, yeast, coccidiosis, etc. She is pooping again. Her system is all jacked up, which is understandable. The vet did show me how to tube her but the special feed she wants me to put down her gullet is just too hard to deal with and DH draws the line about helping me with this chore so I just offered her the food and she did eat some of it for me. She also will eat a little of her food (watered down real well of course). She is drinking lots and lots still and her poop has a little grass in it still so the vet thinks the blockage is just a partial blockage now. Hopefully in a day or so it will completely clear if I can keep her strong for long enough. I am scared to put her back out on grass yet but I know its got to happen sooner or later. They weighed her and she hasn't lost any weight which is amazing to me, of course she hasn't gained any either. I hope I'm not offending anyone by posting all this on this thread. Anyway, more later....
I like hearing updates!

Well been busy busy ! All my pups went into their homes this weekend, it was bitter sweet

Today we bought 2 ~ 300 gallon rubbermaid ponds

They are going to soooo loved by my ducks & geese!
Sad about the pups leaving, but I bet taking care if all those pups was a lot of work!
I think I may have found a way to help Spirit! In my research, I found that the company Teva made a custom shoe for a penguin whose foot looks just like Spirit's foot. So, I hunted down the specific person who works at Teva who designed the penguin shoe and called him. We had a great talk and he said he would like to help my goose!! I sent him pics and he wants me to trace the foot and send him the outline, then he will look for samples of different materials. He will be in town for the big trade show in August, so we have a goal to have something to try to fit on her when he is here.

I really think if Spirit had a shoe like the penguin, she could live a normal life with the rest of her dewlap clan.

Fred, Ethel and kids taken yesterday... She's only got 3 of the 5 hatched but these appear to be healthy She's a geat mom for being her first year... Ethel was clumsy and not watching where he walked the first few days but he's much better now. I'll be glad when I can let all of them hang out as one flock

front to back Squishy (3 months) Baby (2 months) and Julie's Elvis (4 months) btw Elvis thinks Baby is just awesome and him and Squishy are buddies

Halloween (gray 7 week old) is from Fred and Ethel's eggs and Dora (5 weeks) from the Embden eggs Jerry bought

Squishy's favorite game... grab Mom's keys if your not getting attention
lol.png
I tend to have them clipped on a belt loop

Good luck on the shoes for Spirit... I'm usually staying caught up on here but not on long enough to really chat...
I've got Sumatra chicken eggs in the bator

So whats new with everyone else?
Elvis looks really happy, and Halloween is beautiful. Really makes me think i need another little girl goose...
Yes they are truly tough little creatures. A local lady sells Canadians.... I shouldn't.... I shouldn't....I probably will

THEEE BUILD ....
267

I know they are not as big as I would like, but maybe I can put in a 2nd ??

NOW this is my second pond in my other area which we are keeping above ground

There 2 covered shelters they are 4' x 6' each with UV roofs
Beautiful! How do you plan on cleaning them? I had a 100 gallon tank buried. I had a hose connected to the drain to drain it, and bucketed out the last 4 inches of gunk every few days but couldn't keep it clean enough so I gave up and dug it up and switched to a kiddie pool I can dump each day. If I could figure out how to keep it clean I would love to be able to use the tank again. The ducks loved diving down in that thing.

I love my doggies. I'm down to 2 after losing both my boys to cancer this year. My house feels EMPTY with just my Golden in it (my mixed breed that was dumped 7 years ago is not house trained, so he's strictly an outdoor dog).

What kind of health checks do you do before breeding (OFA, CERF, etc)? My next 2 dogs will be a Pointer and a Lab, but I will probably get another Golden some day. My hubby likes the reddish gold color like yours and our Lilly. I like to keep a list of possible breeders for future reference.

Have you looked at the AKC-Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) database? It's very cool (I think). I was going to submit my Pointer's DNA a couple weeks ago, but I lost him the day I printed the paperwork. I love it because it makes it easy to really check out a litter's family health history. Also, you can search by breeder and see if all the dogs they're breeding are healthy.

Something else I recently found, which you may already know about, is a letter to give to your vet from the Golden Retriever Club of America. It's asking the vet to submit samples from GR's with cancer, to help with cancer studies. http://www.grca.org/health/index.html

Lilly is loving being queen of the house. She's always been at the very bottom of the totem pole. Oliver never let her get on "his" couch. OK. I'll stop with the doggie-talk on the duck thread.

Yep.

SM isn't on much, Quacker jack and Duck Girl stopped coming, Julie isn't around much, Celtic DH is ill, but I think mostly folks come on when their bators are full. I'm still hatching things, but I guess most everyone else (with a few exceptions) is done for now.
I've been really busy, and BYC has been acting up quite a bit and being to slow for me to post when I am on here.
hmm.png
I'm on FB quite a bit though if anyone wants to chat on there, and once things slow down a bit I'll be back.

And I'm still hatching, always hatching, lol. Just sizzles the last few months though, no more duckies for me. Yet, I haven't been able to find any runners so am thinking about finding some eggs. Wondering how well they'll ship in the heat though?
So, it looks like my khaki campbell from Marty's eggs is a girl. Quack-quack-quack! I would have been okay either way, but definitely a girl!
celebrate.gif

Out of the three cayugas, it looks like one boy and two girls. Of course, I can't tell them apart, so not sure if I quacked the same one twice.

Little injured BEI is still recuperating. Not sure if that leg is going to heal right or not, but she makes it around gingerly. I think she got pushed off the duck house ramp by a bigger duck.

Got a penciled runner who refuses to go to bed at night. I've been having a huge battle with this one duck for a week now.

Doesn't look like I'm going to get out of attending that wedding. Hubby's already figured out that I'm trying to weasel out. I'm so transparent. Tried to set him up with a carpool so I didn't have to go... no dice. Tried to convince him to ride with his sibs... not happening. He doesn't seem to understand that I prefer the company of my ducks and ducklings than a random gathering of strangers.
Yay on the khaki being a girl! Still trying to find my runners, which is your fault ya know, lol. All those cute little runner baby pics.

Marty, jaz said her Cayuga was 22 weeks old, too. But I keep checking coop, just in case. Do you guys make boxes or place fake eggs out... Or do they just lay them on the shavings in coop where they hang out?

Julie, good to see you. Hope all is well with your flock!

wanted to share this picture, not the best feathering since its post breeding season, but they are fun to take pictures of.

This is Jubilee, an early spring curly Sebbie girl, has lovely feathers spilling out all over and will be a very curly girl

This is Ripple, a smooth Sebbie girl just starting to get her back curls growing in.

Cotton, 2012 (smooth)gander. His coloring is yet to be determined. He has lavender flecks all over making him appear splash from behind.

Violet, our Lavender Ice American goose

and the butt head crew, always giving me their backsides. Peaches left (Lilac Sebbie goose) and Dahlilia right (White Sebbie goose)
