Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I finally moved the peafowl outside. While I was setting it up the wry neck gosling almost drowned in it's waterer

. Luckily I was there and it now has a even shallower pan.

I swear! There are times that you can prevent everything to the best of your ability and they still find that one way to kick the bucket. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks Eye

. I swear I think I'm done with brooding. Birds can be so stupid sometimes. It's one of the many reasons I prefer buying adult birds. I think next year I'm going to let anything set just sell off everyone's eggs.

Thanks Marty

Looks like 2 goslings may have angel wing. They are still pretty young and don't have much feathers in yet so it's hard for me to tell. I have my work cut out for me

Found out today for sure that you feed goslings starter through week 6, then wheat and chicken layer to prevent such issues. I have a goose with it. Wrap the wings immediatly, its the only way. I waited too long, and had much trouble, and now my sebbie has permanent angel I think. Its better, but not perfect.

I had a goose with it before so I guess I'll try to do it tomorrow. There wings are so small right now though. It could have just been the angle I was looking at them though.

Thanks Eye

Get quail then! They are easy. For me they are literally like an oven. Set em and forget about em. Well, other than feeding, watering, cleaning, and making sure that the covey gets along in the beginning. Males can be butt heads but I have had pretty good luck with mine. They are for my enjoyment/egg/meat purposes only. I thought about re-homing all of mine because I was worried about not having enough time for them when school starts. I decided against it when my newest popcorn hatched. They are too much fun. I am taking some to Jaz this weekend but will still keep a good portion of them.

Morning all,

Marty I would never feed young geese (under 3 months old) wheat, and would never give them chicken layer because of the added calcium for she'll production.

hatch to 4 weeks starter

over 4 weeks- 3 months maintenance and rolled oats

3 months plus maintenance and some of any of the following (wheat, oats (whole) BOSS, millet)

1 month before breeding season, through breeding season the above grains with layer feed

Then after breeding season stop the layer returning to maintenance as they don't need the layer the rest of the year.
