Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I'm good, Iain. Its nice to see you.

Ninja is a cute tabby, and she's allready dressed for halloween I see! You may not be in the rescue business, but it sure seems to be your calling this year. From all night assisted hatches, to goosies in the fields, and a kitty on your window.

Your a good egg. :D

Cute pic Julie, hows the squirrel? Did I miss its release?

Hiya GQ - still hatching eh? I'm about to turn my back on for another dose of quail, but I'm not doing any other hatching until the geese start laying in the spring. I didn't even do the usual amount of ducks, since I'd gotten Ancona and Indian Runners about, I just decided I had enough for now.

I still havn't gotten my first duck egg from anyone yet. My large breed pullets are laying amoung the chickens, but not the california whites yet. Or silkies. (Of course, I wasn't expecting much from them) We are painting everything at our place, then we've got to get on the horse stalls in the barn. We're gonna line them with poultry net, and use the two big stalls for the two goose flocks (sebs and toulouse) this winter for nights especially. The chickens will just be in cages. I've only got like 9 of them. I don't suppose the turkey care, like the ducks, so I might just give them each an outdoor sheltor.
Sounds like you're pretty busy.

I've taken the squirrel outside a few times, but she ends up just getting scared and running up and hiding in my hair (guess she's not used to chickens and ducks yet). She's turned into a spoiled brat.

Yep, my guys get dry food. I will try cracking an egg on top.

I'm pretty good, thanks. How are you?

By the way, not that we are in the rescue biz... but someone dumped a cat on our property last fall. We have fed her all winter, but could not catch her. Hubby named her Ninja. Well, Ninja had four kittens about 7 weeks ago. So, we got them established on a feed routine/location with canned food and then trapped them all this weekend. We found a home for one kitten, hope to rehome two kittens (but most likely will simply get them fixed and turn them back out onto horse property), but will keep Ninja and one kitten. Here is Ninja, our newest family member.

I love calicos!

If either of the kittens look like ninja stick one with the geese when you ship them to jerry and paulla.

I always shoot high, and if you sell
woot.gif
I never use OBO, unless I am wanting to actually sell them for 15ish
if not ~ lower the price after a week, it also depends on how fast you are wanting to move them. How many are you selling again & the sexes? I know you posted pics a couple pages back, will have to go back & take a peek. I would be interested in the girls maybe??
I have a buyer coming over to buy a flock of my ancona ducklings around 6pm today ! She said she wants around 6, but we shall see ~ we all know how Craiglist flakes are

Hey Jaz, are you going to be hatching your own eggs or something? You just sold me 2 girls a few weeks ago!

All i have to do is complain i guess. my ancona dispensed (hehe) her first egg this morn. yay! Christina, even though im not Jaz, i feel 25 obo for adults is fair.

Yay for eggs! I thought $25 wounded fair, too, but it seems like a lot of people want ducklings...

My goose has become quite the babysitter.
big_smile.png
She has also started teaching everyone to come to the front door to beg for treats too. And 20 or so birds (not counting the babies) doesn't seem like a lot when they are spread out over an acre, but it sure does seem like a lot when they are all gathered around the front door.
Those pictures are adorable! Nice goose.

Pretty kitty! She looks pretty calm for having been running wild for awhile. Do you think she was someone's pet before she was abandoned?

I've heard mixed things about feeding raw egg to dogs. There's an enzyme in raw egg whites that blocks the absorption of biotin. I'm not sure how much they would have to eat to create a biotin deficiency, especially since eggs yolks are high in biotin (I think).

My dogs steal raw ducks eggs and eat them without any apparent side effects, but it's not on a daily basis. I wouldn't feed raw eggs every day, unless I was going to just feed the yolk (which has most of the nutrients in it anyway). Usually I feed extra eggs to the dogs on the weekends when I have time to lightly scramble the eggs or fry them over-easy, just to be safe. Everyone does what works best for them, though.

Julie, I love the pics!!! So cute!!!

Congrats to those getting eggs and sorry to those who are not yet. My cayuga girl continues to leave me a daily gift. Hubby and I finally tried one. Other than the yolk tasting richer, it was hard to tell the difference from a chicken egg. Based on the timing of her laying, I expect my other 4 girls to start laying next week or so.... then I'll be overrun with eggs. I'm thinking eggs will become a regular part of my dogs' diets soon.

OLAH UTAH !!

My cayuga girl loves giving her one egg a day !

I would pay for an adult Ancona.... The lady ended up coming out & bought 5 (1 male & 4 females) Anconas & 1 cayuga female. @ 2 for $25. Then she decided she wanted me to have her Pekin Drake & Hen & her Khaki Cam Drake. SHE came back the next day & brought them over & traded me for 1 cayuga male duckling & 1 ancona male duckling & one of my month old chicks!
So I now have 3 adult very pretty duckies

Thanks!! LOL Julie, calicos are my favorite too!! Sadly, her kittens are all solid colors... 1 black/white, 2 orange and 1 buff colored. I think Ninja was someone's kitten before getting dumped last fall onto our property. She has been a lot easier to approach than her kittens, but we have been working very hard at getting her to be ok with us for a couple of months now. Perhaps that has helped her to trust us.

Hi Everyone!

My 5 remaining swedish flower hen eggs go into lockdown tomorrow
fl.gif
, the rest were duds. All my adult ducks are molting finally. Poor Mr Worf is starting to look good again and hopefully will stay that way.

I had to put Tony down today
hit.gif
. He started seizing today so I rushed him to the vet. They said it was such a late stage cancer and with him being so old the most humane thing would be to put him down. I just can't win this year
