Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Beautiful! My fiirst impression on the blues was pullets, but then in the last pic, front one's comb looks pretty pink. Hmmm.. I am going with 2 pullets for the blues.

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping too. But their combs are pretty red just small. That's makes me think roo. Just a waiting game now for crowing or saddle feathers. The wait is never easy.

Here's the 3 Isbar I have remaining. They're 6 week 4 days old. Any thoughts on male/female for the blue birds? Obviously the Splash is a roo! As long as he's nice he's a keeper.

The other 2 Isbar that hatched were also obvious roos. They had large combs bright red combs at 2-3 weeks. Identical to the Splash.

You couldn't possibly have ended up with all roos...I'm thinking 1 pullet and 1 roo through. That comb is smaller but it looks more red than pink. Hmmm, I don't have any first hand experience with Isbars though!

Does one happen to have thicker legs and bigger feet than the other? That's usually a roo feature.

The Isbars kind of tricked me on the first batch too. I thought they were cockerels because of the color of the comb, but they ended up being pullets. Their combs seem to be on the redder side for pullets, but are straight. Cockerels have the same colored combed but more rounded.

I’m leaning towards the two dark ones being pullets. I have two more Isbars I’m wondering about as well. I’ll grab pictures while I’m out on hawk look out so they can be outside of the coop.

I am leaning towards pullets, too. There isn't red in their faces/wattles like the splash cockerel.

I need to watch them closer but I haven't noticed a bit different in feet/legs. The Roo's are smaller than I'd expect on a roo.

That's interesting. Always a bit of a learning curve with new breeds. I'll be sure to post an update on these birds in a month. To see if it's any more clear what they are.

I’m finding that with a bunch of different breeds growing at one time, it’s very hard to tell who’s what. The Barnevelders look like cockerels, but their combs and wattles say otherwise. Blue Laced Red Wayandotte cockerel tricked me for 10 weeks.

10 weeks turned red and crowed.

7ish maybe 8 weeks old. Only sign of a cockerel was size.

That one also sure looks pullet. What a big difference those few weeks make. I've read that with Double Silver Laced Barnevelder only the female get the double laced pattern. This is one of my DSL Barnevelder fro Foxfire at 6 weeks. Clear double lacing. Guessing pullet.
