Working on the latter .. I can rationalize most anything ..
We're working on moving Mama, but she likes the nest they've been living in and isn't giving it up easily .. should have her out by the weekend. If I have too, I'll set up a second broody pen. Irregardless, the babies are getting big enough, and I've got at least 5 that are showing to be cockerels already. The current batch of littles will be in position to move on, however they're gonna move on, by the time Opal hatches the next clutch. I'll just be rotating them out. I explained this to DD after she booted Opal out the nest, again, .. and she gave me a 'whatever' look, lol. Hubs is on board, I think. I'm not sure I've told him ..
Can you lock DD in her room for the weekend?
To see if Miss broody is going to stick?

DD is at an age that she locks herself in her bedroom.:gig
Broody is stuck and trying to hatch a golf ball. DD's attempts to break thus far have been just shooing her off her nest. Opal just circles around and goes straight back in.

I pulled two more of her eggs out the fridge this morning to get them to room temp to see if she could hatch them. They've been in the fridge maybe 4 days. I'll add it to her other two I've been holding out. That'll give her 4 to brood .. haven't decided if I wanna throw some of the other's hens in with it. The goal was EE's, so perhaps I should just stick to it. A compromise for DD ..

That would be a fun experiment!
Trying to hatch eggs from the fridge.
Have you tried that before?

... or rather, hatching refridgerated eggs has happened before.
Hubs came home a said has a buyer for 4 pullets, already! He's totally on board and asked if I could fill the nest .. I have 7 EE eggs total, but three of those have been in the fridge for more than a week. :hmm

I let everyone, including Mama and babies, out in the yard and closed off the maternity ward. Hoping this will encorage her to go in the coop tonight :fl

Oh .. and Opal is a witch. Caught her pushing another hen out the nest: 20180413_133451.jpg

Good luck.
I personally don't think refrigerated eggs have a good chance.
I hope they work for you!

Probably not, but it'll be interesting to see. The plan worked - Mama and littles are in the floor of the coop. Broody getting moved later tonight :celebrate
I want to watch the fridge eggs. I love experiments.

:yesss:for the move! :woot

4 EE and 4 EExRSL eggs set under broody. She was happy to take them. F1 and F2 are fridge eggs. RSL not pictured since it was a request from hubs when I was taking eggs out to the hen. I think he wants more cockerels ..
