To the person who dumped 40 pekins on the side of the road..

Thanks for taking care of those babies. I have Pekins and love them (and how loud and big they are). I actually stopped once to confront four grown men who were trying to grab geese to do who-knows-what to them in a hotel parking lot. People abusing animals really, really ticks me off.

BTW, we work with animal rescue (dogs) and the rescue we work with frequently, very frequently, has to turn down helping people. There are too many animals that are dumped or abandoned and only so much capacity in shelters and rescue organizations. The recession has made it worse and they have more folks looking for someone to take their animals and less people able to foster and adopt. I'd encourage anyone who is upset by the fact that it's hard to find help with animals to consider working with a shelter or rescue league.

I take my hat off and bow to you my dear! You are amazing, your mother is super awesome, and all the volunteer helpers are great too!!!
I have rescued all kinds of animals wild and stray and abandoned off the roads, sometimes the wild ones I just need to move off the road, others I have to get a rescuer/wildlife rehabilitator to take them, strays and abandoned ones I try to take home if i can and they have a personality I can trust around my daughter and others I unfortunately have to take and drop off at the shelter..>BUT I will not leave an animal in a situation where its going to slowly suffer and die, I just can not physically do it. I once camped out all night to catch a pregnant dog off the side of the road, and worked into the night to be friend her into my car, it took me 12 hrs of constantly just sitting out there and talking to her and bribing her. I was pregnant at the time and I absolutely could not bear the thought of even going home without getting that dog atleast to the shelter where she wouldn't suffer and have puppies without protection in January.

If we can get the egg train helping you out, I could quite probably take 4 myself and a friend is looking for pekins and so they may be interested as well to give some a home. I'll check back tomorrow and see if we can work something out with the egg train.

Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your support and the warm fuzzy feeling I get when I realize that there ARE people who appreciate animals in the world. Y'all are great!

I checked on the ducks again and they are all going to bed. They're so cute! And there are so many of them. Their poop is all gross and black from the gravel and mud they've been eating.

I think that they are 2 and a half - 3 months old? The craigslist add said they were two months, I believe, and I am very positive these are those ducks. I have no idea what will happen to the trucker, but the park police didn't really seem to care about the fact that it was illegal to dump them, they just wanted them gone..

THANKS to everyone who wants to work with me to get the ducks! I will be contacting the egg train and letting you all know what I find out. You all are great people. Updates and pictures will come tomorrow!

What a wonderful thing you did. Shame on those people. I would report them to the cops or animal control and have them fined. Next I would write your story in the local newspaper. Maybe you could find homes for them. Craigslist too. Maybe the guy who listed them didn't feel like responding to his email. To much trouble for him I guess. I sure wish I lived closer. Great job to you and the others that helped.

Kudos to you in saving them....irresponsible owners should not have any!

If they want to feed their families, they could at least have duck for dinner.....but I guess they wanted to dump them instead.

Many people don't realize that most states have no state laws in reguards to birds in general - domestic, farm raised, exotic (parrots-peacocks, etc), etc...and unless local animal control officers or the department that runs them in that county happens to be a bird lover- you're probably not going to be able to do anything about any body abusing/neglecting birds. Its a sad fact and something I wish would be changed, I've been harassing our local AC and State officials to change these rules for a couple years now because of a local petstore that up until it had enough customers complain and threaten to with-hold business finally started keeping their caged parrots in better condition and living environments. In my quest to find out what I could do about them - i discovered just how little states even mention birds of any kind in the animal cruelty/neglect laws.

There are like 10 states that have any measures of law pertaining to birds and most are simply pertaining to water and food being available to them - thats it.

However releasing domestic animals into the wild is a state and federal offense, I would contact state wildlife TOMORROW, and also contact state agrigultural director (or who evers in charge of AG in your state -cant remember title) this is a serious offense because this is what has led to them banning muscovies on a federal level - and this needs to be addressed.

Good luck!

I will be writing to the newspaper and local news stations. Hopefully, at least one of them will run a story on the ducks that we have now dubbed "The Clarksburg Quackers" and bring attention to this problem that is happening everywhere. The thought that anyone could do this makes me sick and that's why I couldn't simply drive by them. Animals never deserve bad treatment they get but they take it. Please keep all those animals who didn't get saved in your hearts.

Thank you thank you and all the people who helped rescue those poor ducks. It is so sweet of you, all the best to you and the ducks. If you get the egg train started and it comes my way I will adopt 2 ducks. God Bless.
