Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

Well I'm happy to say that so far it looks like all 10 Silkies and all 10 Salmon Faverolles are still developing! Most are looking really good with exception of the egg I have named "Bubbles" which was the egg I candled before setting and there was a weird blob floating around which I believe may have been a detached chalaza. The baby is still developing but the veining doesn't look quite as strong and even though I could see baby moving it's definitely staying toward the bottom end of the egg. Time will tell, but so far my first hatch of the year is looking very promising! :fl

So exciting!!!

While carrying something into the kitchen I sideswiped the incubator. Sending eggs colliding against each other in all directions!!!:th A quick candling revealed one is cracked from top to bottom. I put some nail polish on it and hope it can hang in there till Wednesday. Man, what a clumsy thing to do. These are day 17 eggs! Guess I should be happy it's just the one egg. It was one heck of a hit.

The color I used on the repair is called "Free Fall". I can't figure out if that's a good or bad omen.:idunno:lau

Oops!! This sounds like something I would do! I was so nervous that I’d bash my bator or drop a glass on it or something since I had it on our kitchen counter under our cabinet with mugs and glasses. Now that my hatch is over I’m setting it up in our spare bedroom for the next hatch. Hope your baby makes it!

Hatch day is in two days (the tenth)!!! I am so excited! The eggs are already in lockdown (I actually did lockdown a couple days ago).

Candling was good. I think I took out almost a dozen eggs, but that's only because most of those that I took out weren't fertile. I love watching the chicks move inside the eggs!

I placed paper towels on the floor of the bator, partly because I've heard styrofoam is hard to clean and partly because I feel like the weird screen floor of the Hova incubator would hurt the chick's feet. I took the eggs out of the turner and layed them on their sides. Filled up the biggest trough full of water like the instructions said.

As advised, I won't open the incubator until several chicks have hatched and are nearly dry. But I can't say I'm too happy about that because there aren't very good windows on the bator and I can't see many of the eggs. What I can see is blurry. Danget, I guess I won't get a good view of the hatches. Oh well, can't be helped now.

Now I wait...:hmm:fl:drool:barnie:he (Emojis help me demonstrate my emotions best)

At least I have my babies to keep me busy... and the grow outs

Looks like a lot of little ones will be hatching in the next few days! :wee

I've got 11 little silkies from my paint pen due on the 11th myself. :D

Of my 16 shipped silkie eggs that are due on the 22nd I've got 8 going strong, 1 that looks like it may have just quit or is in the process of quitting (no movement, blood vessels looking too sparse) and the other 7 are clear.

2 more hatched out overnight. The 2 eggs left have not pipped. I held them up to my ear I cant hear any tapping. I'll drink my coffee and go candle them. All 5 chicks are under the heat plate. Not got any to eat yet.

With only a few days it should be okay. It takes time for bacteria to grow.
