Toulouse Geese Thread

Last year I let my toulouse incubate all the eggs, but she was clueless when it came to hatching time. I ended up letting them hatch in the bator and raising them myself. It was interesting though, because their biological mother, she who had had no interest in sitting on the eggs or caring for the newborn fuzzies, became inexplicably protective and motherly to the little guys when I finally introduced them to the flock.

The instinct was in there it just took a bit of time to come out.

Geese make great parent for ducklings and goslings. I have never had chicken so can not say what they do with chicks, but not a good idea because you want chickens not to get wet, not good for the chicks that I know of.

I got my 1st goose egg of the year yesterday...woohoo. if she continues to lay I will let her keep a few close to the end of March. I have tossed the idea around of putting some duck eggs in with her to hatch as well. Is that possible or would they get smooshed. She was such a good momma last year to her 2 babies she hatched.

So excited!!! Bonnie laid her very first egg. Mind you it was behind the heat pump and not in a very good location!!! We relocated her egg to a man made nest in her covered run. Hopefully she will get the hint!!!

Congrats!! this year I bought 4 ceramic goose eggs from Poultry 1 to give Missy my Toulouse the incentive to lay in her house. Her and my gander have just began mating for this year so I put one of the eggs in their house, I swear these eggs are so life like it fooled my chickens who have been going in and laying their eggs next to this big egg.

I've had my girl for almost 3 years now. She is just as sweet as can be and I'm glad I got her. I almost backed out because so many people told me that she would just turn out nasty and mean, but I sure proved them wrong with my girl. She is one of the nicest birds I've ever met. Her name is Lucy!

Here's a picture from last winter. She has gotten some white around her eyes and beak now, but she still is just as pretty as ever.

She´s very pretty, and it´s not usually the females that give problems. Does she have a friend duck?
