I haven't even seen them get an inch off the ground. Girls are too fat

I'm going out to take pictures of them. I do it in weekly intervals

mine don't get off the ground either, but they look so cute when they do it together.

I love watching all my guys zoom around. My hatchery stock african girls can get a little air, but only my teenage african/toulouse crosses can truly fly.

I bet thats a site to see. especially since you have open areas, here if they took flight they'd crash into trees we're very wooded.

LOL That reminds me of a funny story. When we first took the african goslings across the street to horse property, our ganders were at house trying to find them. When they realized we were across street, they came flying to the gate. One pulled up and landed gracefully, but the other went crashing into the gate. He bounced off and ruffled his feathers. All was well. Make me think of pee wee herman crashing the bike, jumping up and saying "I meant to do that."

LOL they sure don't want to tarnish their reputations by appearing clumsy .Although my gander has amazed me that he hasn't seriously injured himself the way he never looks where he is going. He's managed to avoid injury for 5plus years now so hopefully it will continue.

Hey everybody. My mom just sent me a link to this news story about a Toulouse. I LOVE this video....it is Sooo sweet, but sad at the same time. I couldn't get it to embed, but here is a link to it on YouTube.

Thanks for that, so sweet. I would love to see a follow up to see what happened to her and the rest when they drained the lake. Did you see all the domestics there, heart breaking. Boy when he started down the street on his scooter I was so afraid she was going to get hit, I was very relieved when they said he turns around and takes her back to the park.

I was also very relieved to see that somebody will close the gate and keep her in so she won't follow him. I found the following information online about what happened to this particular goose:

Maria, along with the other geese present at Echo Park were temporarily relocated to Los Angeles Zoo in April 2011 and placed into quarantine, as the park underwent restoration and the lake was drained. It was at this time that veterinarians at the zoo discovered that Maria was in fact a male goose and is now named Mario. Zoo officials have permanently housed Mario at the Children's zoo and Mr. Ehrler, Mario's best friend, still frequently visits.

At some point their was nearly a custody battle as Mr. Ehrler had asked to be allowed to take Mario and move to Oregon. However, the State of California told him that since the geese are non-migratory, they are therefore the property of the state. It was shortly after that when Mario was made a permanent addition to the zoo.

I also found an article that said due to attempted attacks on the birds by coyotes in late 2011, that all the domestic ducks and geese were relocated by the state to safer areas in February of 2012. They consulted with waterfowl and wildlife experts, and kept groups together when they moved them to two different lakes that closely resembled Echo Park where they lived. It seems that at least this part of California keeps a close eye on the domestics that end up on state property and acts in their best interest, which is very refreshing.

That is the very reason I got a Toulouse in the first place. I saw that video and decided right there and then :)
