Tractor Supply Chicks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote:

there is a thread about stupid stuff said about your eggs chickens, and there where people who shared from several places that people to TOLD them that butchering animals is mean they should buy their meat from the store where they MAKE the meat and no animals are harmed....
Now ofcourse I have to go find that thread....lol...

That thread got locked...off topic, and some people got ticked off and argumenative.

I used to enjoy it and wasn't surprised if someone asked me a similar question because I "heard" it already.

I'll have to try finding the new one. Didn't know they started a new thread. Thought they would avoid the fighting if they didn't try talking about "stupid" people anymore.

I am a new chick and duckling momma, and I got my chicks at a local tractor supply. They had 'americana' chicks, fairly certain they're E. Eggers. So we got 7 of them. They had one black australorp chick all by itself, and it seemed a little lethargic. I know I probably shouldn't have but I noticed its little bum was pasted up really bad, and I figured if I couldn't save him at least someone tried, ya know? I knew I'd feel guilty if I didn't get it.(also got some khaki campbells!) The only other breed they had were white bantams. Anyway took them all home and immediately cleaned off the australorp chick. Got it to drink some electrolyte water, and after a couple of hours it didn't seem to be eating or defecating. The advice I got was to give it a warm soak/bath for 5 minutes. While doing this I ran a baby blanket in the dryer, to keep the chick toasty warm while drying it. After that I put some olive oil over the vent and put him back. Less than a minute later it pooped and started eating. Its been a day and now it's nice and fluffy (minus its bare bum) and running around with the rest of the chicks, and seems like it'll make it after all. Though it irks me that the staff at the store would've just let it die...

Some times you have an employ that will go that extra mile..
Glad it's on the mend!

I've noticed that some employees seem to be high school age, but one very young woman helped me pick out what she thought were females from a straight run group, and she was right with ALL of them! I couldn't believe it. It's the only time I've had every single chicken that was supposed to be a pullet turn out to actually BE a pullet. She sure knew her stuff, and I didn't even have to pay for sexing!

She'd had chickens all her life, though, granted, she wasn't that old, and knew more about them than any of the people I've talked to before. She really loves her chickens. Maybe she's a chicken whisperer!

I have LF Easter eggers and some do and some don't have the puffy cheeks.
They do look similar to some of the bantams I got from TSC which are probably old English or American game Bantams, but mine have the yellowish chicken feet and legs.

Our Tractor supply has a little of everything. They are shipped whatever the hatchery has extra of that week. Some straight run...some sexed. So far I have seen Cornish, RR Reds, Banties, Black Astralorps, Buff Orps, Sexed Pullets, Ameracanus and an assortment of ducks. I cant wait to see what else they get in :)
