I LOVE this thread!!

I didn't see if she posted, but our moderator eggchel was the first that introduced me to this when I heard about her chicken named "Safeway" (which she hatched from Safeway free range eggs).

I remember I was blown away at the concept!

heh...I was just at TJ's yesterday and the hatching eggs were only 6 days old.

I did manage to refrain, simply because I have enough White Foghorns and they're difficult to get rid of. Maybe I should roll up on Safeway next.

Your right, Nifty, because not everyone has access to TJ's and not all TJ's have fertile eggs, but many other natural grocery stores do. Thanks for the title suggestions,

I just recently renovated my trusty ol' 16+ y.o. incubator and found some TJ's eggs to calibrate it way out here in Las Vegas, NV, that were only 4 days old and shipped over the hill from Pasadena. I didn't want to put expensive *purebred* eggs into it in case the thermostat was wonky. The bator works fine, though, and so if they candle well this weekend there may be a new member to the club.

I followed this thread previously... The idea is just zany enough to be VERY appealing.

I'm currently hatching eggs from TJ with my kids in an after school program. Unfortunatly, it looks like only 6 out of the 12 are developing. I am a first time hatcher so it could be a combination of variables but I'm also hatchingfree range eggs from a local farmer with the ratio being about 2:1 (1 TJ egg developing for ever two of the other eggs). I'll update after the hatch.

read this thread yesterday and was amazed.

went to TJs and whole foods just now and got fertilized eggs at both
Brown from WF - (16 days old) $3
white rom TJs - (12 days old) $2.49

They are a bit old -but gotta give it a go!!!!
will put them in to the incubator this evening.

It appears that TJ's eggs to Las Vegas do not fare so well in transit....That and the checkout girl said to really check the carton as the gorillas in the back room were unloading the trucks. I wish I had candled BEFORE I put them in the bator.... Lots of broken yolks that got an auto-turner joy ride for a week. (Lesson learned!) Out of 23 eggs, all duds with 3 having blood rings. The yolks were a really pale yellow color, too.

I will try again, though. I wanna be in the club!
