TREAT THEM FOR WORMS NOW -Molting - short days - few or no eggs anyway

Robin'sBrood :

I wonder, would it be safe to scramble up the "wazine eggs" and feed them to my dog, instead of tossing them? I can't stand to be wasteful if I can help it.

It's recommended not to feed them to dogs.

I't wont hurt the dogs, the chickens or actually yourself if you wanted to eat them. unless you happen to be allergic to piperazine.Half the dosage that each bird recieves is eliminated from the get go through the feces, The other half even if absorbed into one egg is like 2000 times the human dosage

kathyinmo, when would you decide to treat more than once a year. Seems to me that losing 21 days of eggs twice a year (six weeks) or more is ... I don't know what. I hope that after this I never have to treat for worms more than once a year.
Already this year I've had to go three weeks after treating them for respiratory infection/fungus prevention. Now I'm doing ten days after giving them Wazine 17. So in three days I'll have to start 21 more days of tossing eggs after I give them the Valbazen treatment. That's more than SEVEN weeks of tossing eggs just this year.

I deworm twice a year .... spring and fall. I use ONLY Valbazen, none of the others. I don't toss my eggs. I eat them.......

I used to use Wazine and Ivermectin, but don't any more. I will say though, the nice thing about Ivermectin is that it kills mites and lice also. Main reason I chose Valbazen is they do not become immune to it.

There should be absolutely no need to toss the eggs if you've wormed using pyrantel or one of the -zoles - if you're eating them for yourself or feeding to dogs, that is. Selling eggs is always iffy because you don't know what people are allergic to. But if you're eating them in the household, the metabolites of both of those are very mild and would be in an extremely low concentration, and anyway are used to treat people for pinworms OTC. The absolute worst you could do to yourself is a very, very mild worming (honestly you wouldn't even do that).

Piperazine (Wazine) is more iffy in my opinion; I think it's a nasty drug considering how few things it works on. If I had to choose a roundworm-only wormer I'd use pyrantel in a flat second, not piperazine. Piperazine has neurological side effects (if you've ever even slightly overdosed a kitten you know what I mean - they drool and get drunk and can even have seizures) and it's got a ridiculously long withdrawal time because it stays in the system for so long.

Based on the ridiculously thorough research I did, which agrees with what I already knew in goats and swine and dogs and cats, if you're looking to not toss the eggs and it was a "virgin" worming I'd use pyrantel first, then one of the -zoles. If they're being wormed regularly just use one of the -zoles. Ivermectin for mites only, and I would be inclined to toss eggs for a couple weeks after ivermectin because it gets into the plasma so easily and is therefore in the eggs too, and it's a bit of a harsher med than the dedicated wormers.

I like to get some Valbazen, but hard time finding any around Washington. I can get from Ebay. The only problem is the bottle too big (500ml). It usually expire in a year and no way I can use more than 20ml. Does anyone has a source? I did contact Rebel Ranch, but they are not carry Valbazen.

How about put the egg in the incubator?

I was waiting to worm mine til after Christmas as I do a lot of baking and need the eggs. BUT I went out to give treats to the hens and one of them pooped in front of me, and I saw a squiggly in it. So I now have Valbazen on the way.

I never saw any evidence of worms before or after I gave mine Wazine 17. I think I'm going to be happy with just worming them just once this year.
