I never saw any evidence of worms before or after I gave mine Wazine 17. I think I'm going to be happy with just worming them just once this year.

Robin'sBrood, I'm just saying this to be sure that you understood/know. Wazine 17 treats ONLY for roundworms, not the myriad of other kinds.

Next time you kill chickens, just look inside their intestines to see if there are any worms. My husband did that when he killed two of our roosters and there were no worms so we won't be worming yet. Years ago, I cracked open one of our eggs and found a living worm inside. It was totally gross! I called the County Extension office and he said that roundworms can migrate to the ovary and end up in the eggs so we wormed our flock after that.

I used to work for a vet and did the lab for parasites. This was over 30 yrs ago but as best I can recall, I'd mix up a sugar solution in a big container. Some of the sugar water went into a small cup with the stool sample and was stirred. Then a drop of that went onto a slide with a cover on and I looked at it under the microscope. I had a chart that showed me what kinds of worm eggs I was looking at.
ETA:
One site I found said the worm eggs will float to the top of the solution, so you should put the slide at the top of a full container and test what sticks to it.

A few years back I treated our inside/outside 12 year old, very active cat for worms. It was winter and he had been losing weight and was lethargic, which was completely out of character. Winter was his fat time since he rarely went outside. Well, to shorten this up, I treated him for worms (what else could it be?) and he ended up having feline aids or whatever the proper term is. To this day I wonder if I just made him feel worse by playing doctor.

Now we have a dog and 5 chickens and I don't give any meds unless a vet tells me to, and then I think about it long and hard before I put any chemicals into my pets.

Yep, and I wormed mine on 8/10 with Wazine.(didn't see any worms at that point, but my hens were dropping weight) So now I'm doing Valbazen. Those buggers are going bye-bye.

jerseygirl1, yes, they do, but it's $26 a bottle for 100 ml. Anywhere else, for $10 more you can get 500 ml.

This
is a copy of reply #10 farther back:
Here's a site where you can buy just 60 ml for $15 + S&H.
............. I bought more than eight times as much for a little more than twice that cost. It should last me at least six lifetimes.

Yes, and please keep in mind that in worming it really is an ounce of prevention or a pound of cure. Want to keep the "chemicals" going into your birds at a minimum? Use a good, regular, preventive parasite program. That lets you use medications that are only very poorly absorbed into the body. They stay in the gut, they don't get in the bloodstream, they're extremely safe with a huge margin of error.

If you hang around waiting until you've got birds dying, fixing the problem becomes extremely difficult and requires higher repeated dosages of medications that end up in blood and meat and eggs. And the damage being done by the worms to your birds meanwhile is much worse.

Yes, I understand that. But my girls are getting over their molts and are FINALLY starting to lay again, and I really need their eggs right now (it's only a few weeks until Christmas, ya know.

Oh, great. Gag. If I ever saw a live worm in an egg there is no way I would be able to eat eggs again! I can worm mine again after Christmas, can't I? It doesn't have to be exactly 30 days after their first worming I hope.
