Trip to feed store leads to political arguement!

problem with arguing or discussing politics is that so few have any real facts. Candidate A calls Candidate B a liar. B calls A a liar. What did you learn, besides that they are both jerks? They also skew statistics, so that if you don't go out of your way to discover the truth, all you have is the half truth you've been fed. For example, Romney said that 47% of Americans were on government assistance. He made it sound like half of us are on wellfare, taking and not giving. The democrats did a good job of disclaiming that, but they twisted the facts in the other direction, to say that Romney hates veterans. Democrats do that as well when they say they don't want to tell a woman what to do with her body. Ridiculous! The law tells everybody what to do with their bodies all the time. Don't run around in public naked, don't point a gun at somebody else, don't drive drunk. I think politicians count on us to be too busy or too lazy to investigate the 'facts' we are being fed, so they wrap their lies in something delicious, hoping we'll bite and not let go.
That is what c-span is for go watch for yourself! I watched one day the house was argueing over signing that jobs bill! It made me sick at my stomach! And I turned it off!

Thank you for your service to our country.

I wish that more of us would always remember the sacrifices that you and other veterans have made on our behalf as well as the women who were jailed and force fed with tubes to give us all the right to vote.

Every American should vote his or her conscience, and should respect the rights of every other American to do the same -- if their vote matches or mismatches our own vote. It is their right. People engaging in political discourse and stating their views is part of democracy and free speech. Calling people idiots for their views...maybe not so productive either way.

My sympathies to everyone in a "battleground" state. This election will exceed any previous election in political advertising. I bet y'all are being bombarded.
Bombarded is an understatement! You can't watch local tv, you can't listen to the radio, you can't go on facebook! Oh and god forbid you leave your landline open! 4 calls one right after the other within a hour and it wasn't my party calling and it left me cussing out an automated voice on the other end! I felt as stupid as that guy looked at the feed store!

I thought this explained tax cuts good

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100 and if they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would
...pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.)

So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. "Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20." So drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free...but what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share’? They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer.

So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay. And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings). The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings). The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings). The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings). The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings). The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before...and the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

"I only got a dollar out of the $20,"declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man," but he got $10!"

"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!"

"That's true!!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!"

"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!"

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, ladies and gentlemen, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

I said didn't want to argue politics here but I feel I need to point something out about the moral of this story! To late the wealthy took their tax break and took a lot of our jobs overseas were they got cheap labor and screwed the Americans not only out of jobs, But out of having a safe product to sell in America! And yes I am talking about the tire industry! Which I might add that I use to work in doing a mans job and not getting paid equal pay for it either!

You're right about it getting worse before it gets better. Romney will be here on Sunday. And I just read that Obama AND Bill Clinton will be here on Monday. A political Double-Header.

Sunday isn't so bad because I can avoid going to that area but they've not yet released where Obama will be on Monday. Last election Obama came the night before the election and they closed roads without telling us in advance. I was trying to pick up my daughter but she was on the other side of the roadblock and they wouldn't let me through! I had to park in a grocery store parking lot miles away while she caught a ride from someone also inside the roadblock to get to me. Then we couldn't get home! Had to take back roads that went way out of our way to finally get home.

I'm sure there are undecided people somewhere but it's hard to find one around here after having the election crammed down our throats 24/7. We are collectively DONE with the whole thing and wish we could vote TODAY so we can get our lives back!
I did early vote. Don't you have that option in VA? We had Romney here a couple weeks ago! OMG what a mess it was football friday night, the lancaster fair was going on and it was in the middle of rush hour, and Romney shut downtown lancaster down! Ugg it was so not good timing on his part!

About the air time that all the ads are using. A few of us were talking the other day about how there should be a limit! I know it falls under the freedom of speech thing, but if you live in a swing state you understand what I am saying! Put it this way I have learned a new form of multi tasking! Find the remote at the same time find the mute button at the same time you are screaming at the tv to shut up!

I did sue the company for that reason! Dummy me didn't sue for any money, I sued so that wouldn't happen to another women ever again! Do you know what happened to the guy that took me in his office and told me I would never make what the men make there because I am a woman! He had to go to anger management classes! And they have never hired another woman in my position since! If that had happened under our current presidents watch, I would have made a media event out of it! But it was before he signed the Ledbedder act! Some say it wasn't necessary for him to do that but I know by experience it was very necessary! I worked for a local tire distribution company, were I drove a box truck and delivered tires. All sizes! From small cart tires to the big construction tires. When I say big I mean I could stand up inside of them! nuff said!

My sympathy to you....... I actually did have lunch with an undecided voter today who hasn't decided for whom to vote...but they know who they aren't going to vote for...(kind of like knowing who you are going to vote for if you vote a major party.... Oh well). That is the voter they are trying to get with all the commercials.

I also agree that most folks by now have made up their mind if they are going to vote, for whom they will cast their ballot. Your point is good about if the amount of money had been directed elsewhere than commercials.

And then we haven't had 'the October surprise' yet --- have we? So just think it will get worse before it gets better....and then the election will be past tense. Hang in there for a few more weeks......

I came across a letter written by my grandmother during WWII - she was saying the same election-weary thing back in the 1940's. It will be good when it is over with.
I thought we did have the October suprise! Isn't that what Trump had to say the other day! I love what Barbra Walters said to Trump about that!

Yes, we can vote early but you have to meet a specific criteria. Unfortunately, my voting early won't make the calls, visits, traffic jams, and TV ad's stop. They won't stop until after election day and I can't wait.

Romney has announced that he won't be here Sunday due to Hurricane Sandy. Haven't heard about Obama and Clinton but Monday is supposed to be our worse day so I'm thinking they'll be forced to cancel, too. Gee, guess there is a silver lining in that hurricane!

You did have me laughing out loud at the new multi-tasking skill.

What ASTOUNDS me is that there is something like (maybe I'm remembering wrong) 1% of the populace that is "undecided" - everyone else has long ago decided for whom they will cast their vote--

so all this last minute stuff is targeted to so few people. I WISH for their sake and ours, we could put up a sign/call block/advertisement block -- "already decided long, long ago -- based upon issues that I feel are important...go bother someone else who hasn't decided, your last-minute ad won't be changing my mind regardless of what you put out there". LOL....

It is actually about 7% undecided. What is scary is the fencesitters deciding the election.
