I'm currently breeding finches and cinnamon bourkes parakeets. I have a Java finch who likes to sit on eggs but is a terrible mother. She's attacked her newborns twice now, nipping off toes and squashing some, and I'm currently hand raising my eighth and ninth Java chicks! It's so frustrating but they were born in a thunderstorm (very unusual for us) and they are highly strung creatures anyway so I don't know if it's just down to stress. But she's already laid another 7 eggs before I've realised what she's up to! They make very sweet hand raised pets though. So that's my current obsession!
I'd love a fish tank again one day. Fish are relaxing to watch. Did you say you have Diamond tetras? They are so, so pretty! I also love little gouramis, threading rainbowfish, ember tetras, all the teensy ones.
Hope all your fish have made the move to their temporary accommodations ok.
They have! Everyone is settled into their ice chests and I don't feel worried anymore at all! Right now I'm removing rocks which is taking forever prob bc I'm playing on ByC. And btw I LOVE gourami too. I actually forgot that mention that the one and only unplanned exception to my tank was a late addition of a paradise gourami which is Asian. I've dreamed of having one since I was a kid but always heard how aggressive they are. Don't know if I'm just lucky but mine just kind of hangs to itself. I believe it's a female tho and that could be the reason. I think the finch thing is cool. I never would've believed they could make good tame pets. I had a cream zebra finch and she was an adorable little egg laying machine but she spooked at the drop of a hat. But I will say I absolutely love the naturalized mini aviaries or large birdcages full of finches of any kind! My local petstore actually has a breeding pair of Gouldian finches. They are too pretty for words!
