I was hoping you could make it because I think we may be stopping by.

Really considering bringing my Rhode Island Red Rooster. He's a year old and has always been awesome. Proven breeder. Always been great with the girls. Just the past few days he's attacked my kids ( 2 &4 ), and the kids have been in the barn with me both times, didn't do anything loud or antagonizing, and it's happened 4x's now. He's never been people, animal agressive or anything. Don't know what's gotten into him! He is still fine with big people and everyone else. He is a gorgeous bird, so I'm kind of sad....

Anyone interested?

RIR are a very agressive breed . I've raised them for several yrs . I tell people they are great egg producers but you better carry a broom with you to gather them !! Not to say there isn't that one roo or hen that is calm but generally they are rude and mean .

I'd suggest having the person that he attacks carry him around but since they are children, you are better off finding him a new home.

Darn! I really want to come to one of these! I seem to have something going on every time I see one! I am all tied up for Saturday!

So sorry to hear of your losses! When is the swap in Lewiston? That is a bit closer, maybe I can plan for that one! DO you have to bring something or can you just show up to buy?

Sorry to hear about your RIR male, course right now it is spring and in the middle of breeding season. He would sure not stay long here either great choice for moving him on, you sure can not have that.

We have Large fowl RIR's that are wonderful birds, and know others that have birds from this line and the male and all his offspring so far have been some of the sweetest birds we have ever owned, he is great at the shows and lets anyone hold him. I think that is why some breeds are falling apart and get stereotyped they are being breed with all these poor traits to encourage egg production or meat which is great but I feel you can have both and like you do the right thing and not keep him or use him for breeding. Any breed of course can show some signs of aggression when it comes to being protective of hens or their young but being mean should not be tolerated.
