Rinda- how is your little legbar roo doing? Is his leg still messed up? Did anything hatch out of the incubator that got unplugged?
Well the legbar with the bum leg/legs looked male at first but was very indistinctly marked, several BYCers in the Legbar thread think it may actually be female. LOL Who knew there was so much uncertainty with an auto sexing breed? But I was losing hope until tonight, when the chick finally began eating on its own. I know they don't NEED to eat for the first day or two but I had been forcing a few drops of water and some warm mash down it a couple of times today- tonight I knew it HAD to really eat, after about 10 drops of mash I dipped its beak in and the chick ate with gusto! Much more than I would have attempted to force feed it. Still cannot walk, can't even balance. If it can't start getting on it's feet soon I will have to seperate it from the others because they are getting big enough to climb up on top of it in the chick chair. Silly chicks! Anyway I really want to give it a week at least before I give up, especially if it continues to eat well. The physical therapy sessions are helping a little- it can bear its own weight now but I have to support it or it falls over on its side. i don't know how to teach it to get its balance. I think the chick chair may be impeding that because it holds the chick up no matter which way the chick pushes its legs. Anyway I will press on for now, if it is a female I REALLY don't want to lose it!
Candled the incubator two days ago, only 2/24 Isbar eggs made it.
