TULSA area Cluckers

Rinda- how is your little legbar roo doing? Is his leg still messed up? Did anything hatch out of the incubator that got unplugged?

Well the legbar with the bum leg/legs looked male at first but was very indistinctly marked, several BYCers in the Legbar thread think it may actually be female. LOL Who knew there was so much uncertainty with an auto sexing breed? But I was losing hope until tonight, when the chick finally began eating on its own. I know they don't NEED to eat for the first day or two but I had been forcing a few drops of water and some warm mash down it a couple of times today- tonight I knew it HAD to really eat, after about 10 drops of mash I dipped its beak in and the chick ate with gusto! Much more than I would have attempted to force feed it. Still cannot walk, can't even balance. If it can't start getting on it's feet soon I will have to seperate it from the others because they are getting big enough to climb up on top of it in the chick chair. Silly chicks! Anyway I really want to give it a week at least before I give up, especially if it continues to eat well. The physical therapy sessions are helping a little- it can bear its own weight now but I have to support it or it falls over on its side. i don't know how to teach it to get its balance. I think the chick chair may be impeding that because it holds the chick up no matter which way the chick pushes its legs. Anyway I will press on for now, if it is a female I REALLY don't want to lose it!

Candled the incubator two days ago, only 2/24 Isbar eggs made it. :( The lady I ordered them from felt bad even though it was totally not her fault and is sending some replacements, very nice of her I thought. 5/12 Ameraucana made it, I think because they were on the edge next to the other incubator that stayed plugged in. Very dissapointing. They are due to hatch.August 17.

I can not imagine how frustrating the incubator incadent would have been. I'm glad the little legbar is improving. I hope she gets better!

So did anyone get any rain today?
None in Bixby. I did accidentally leave my sprinkler on and went to work, I'll have one area of well soaked lawn. Grrr, ca-ching..more money for the water dept.

That really stinks. I even tried washing my car to make it rain. Hopefully Sunday we get a good shower.

Well, the chicks got spoiled tonight. I gave them some left over quinoa and they ate it like they had been starving all day. Not sure why that and oatmeal they like better than watermelon and cantaloupe. I guess they are just not big on the sweets.

No rain here either, I don't think, I was gone all day yesterday and all day today.

Well I rehomed the lame chick with jlfreije (Lori)- with four young kids I don't have time to do PT on a chick 6-8 times a day, each time taking 30 minutes total. But I was so glad Lori took her since she works at a vet clinic and the gals at the clinic can work with the chick all day long! Makes me happy she is going to a good home, if she has a chance anywhere she will make it there.

My replacement Isbar eggs arrived today- and as a precaution I plugged the incubator in where the toddler can't reach it- he unplugged it again today from the other outlet but luckily only for a few minutes. I need to get one of those safety locks that locks the cord into the outlet! Or lock the incubator into the spare bathroom, hmmm. But then it may be too much out of sight, out of mind for me!

AND- school starts TUESDAY hooray! My 6 yo and 4 yo are excited- so is Mommy!

Hello Saturday and aren't you a welcome sight. Got my Swedish Flower roo on Wednesday. Drive to Springfield was great. Met the lady at one of the exits off i44 and wouldn't you know it as soon as she pulled up it stated raining hard with a lot of wind. i drove back in a lot of rain. It stopped at about Miami. Had August in solitary for a couple of days.Let him out to mingle last night. I can see he's a young one because the hens all all trying to school him. Just wait ladies!
Such a nice break in the heat. I'm outside with my coffee and my laptop and a sweatshirt. Gonna try to get a few things done while it's nice.
Rinda those babies i got from you never stop talking. i swear they are cheeping all the time. they are outside in the big compound now in a small hutch. It gets really loud when they can't see any of the big birds. i hear the egg song.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good morning Cathiesue! Congrats on the little Roo! Yes, it is a beautiful cool morning out....I think I will take advantage and go down to the barn and do some cleaning, pen inspection and wasp removal.

Have a great weekend! :)

That is so funny you say that, I miss their constant talking in the house- the last two from that hatch are out in our new juvie pen now. This new batch (legbars and ameraucanas) are SO quiet if you aren't hanging over their box! You have Swedish Flower hens too if I remember right? Are you going to be breeding and selling them? We looked at getting that breed, still might next spring. LOL the plan seems to change everytime I talk to my husband...
