Turkey fell off slaughter truck- Rescued but needs help!

Hate to say it, but they are bred to be large meat birds, slaughtered early in life. They cross breeds to make them get large so fast, their little legs just can't handle the weight.

I agree with the vitamins, and try not to let him gorge on too much food. He'll have to trim down a little until his legs catch up to his weight.

The trauma of the fall and all that has happened is probably why he is so scared. And of course, probably never been around humans, or even had an area of room to move around in.

Awesome of you to try to save him. I hope it all works out!

Are turkey meat birds like chicken meat birds in the way that they grow?

Everybody is responding so fast I don't have the chance to reply individually before I get new notifications! Thank you all!

So from what I gather, after work I need to be setting him up indoors. So I will be clearing out a corner of the shed, and I'll get one of those puppy fence doodads to give him a little area set aside. I have a heat lamp I can set up for him. Should I keep it on even at night?

We are prepared to keep him separate/in "triage" until he loses enough weight that his legs can support him. Yesterday he stood up briefly and we took that as a good sign, but then he squatted back down.

It's just so hot and humid I don't want him over heating! The vet said that could be an issue, but that might have been more about me transporting him in my trunk from the highway.

What sort of vitamins should I get for his water? I'm picking up some feed for him from my girlfriend's place today to feed him. We also gave him some oats and some little tomatoes from our garden but he really hasn't touched any of it.

Also what about his scrapes/bruises? How should I be cleaning his wounds to make sure he doesn't get any sort of infections?

And thank you all for the kind words! I get way to attached to animals way too fast, as does my girlfriend, so we are really hoping that little Sebastian pulls through!
