Turkey Talk for 2014

I am having a similar problem. I have had 4 Turkeys die in a matter of a week. They within a days time go from running around the entire yard few to during and droopy and then they have neck control problems or balance issues and are dead by nightfall.

Just lost my lone Narr that hatched. I'm so bummed. Now I will most definitely need more. Could it be a wry neck thing?

I'm pretty sure wry neck is apparent immediately after hatch. :/ I've only had 1 like that, but I knew before it was even time to switch that hatch to the brooder. The other one is doing great now. I added some vitamins to the waterer and haven't had any more problems. I have a new brooder, so was concerned it was something to do with it, but idk. I've never had sooo many issues with hatching and brooding! Driving me crazy!!! An its really only a short walk to get there!!

Just candled my eggs, they went in the incubator last Wednesday. So far I have 10 babies growing, another with very little growth that I'm thinking may be an early quitter, one obvious clear and another possible clear. I'm happy with the 10 thy show promise so far!!

Question:: if the yolk gets scrambled during shipping can the embryo still grow? The yolks don't look like obvious round shapes like my chicken eggs did. Just curious, thanks!!

I'm not an expert, but I've never had a scrambled ones hatch. I just got 15 Japanese bantams and 14 were scrambled upon arrival. The packaging was great and the box was completely I in tact. Just looks like they shook the crap out of them.

Anyone know at what age a turkeys wing should be clipped? My young poults are flying around everywhere and I am wanting to keep them out of my neighbour's field where his 3 terriers killed one of my blue slates when she went over the the 10 ft fence. The poults are only 4-5 weeks now.the neighbor told me their mother was trying to climb up the fence using the back of the barn as a support.
Thanks for any help.

Try cab clip one wing at any time. IT is the feathers being clipped-- not the bone-- not the end of the wing. JUST feathers. Watch for any that are growing and full of blood, do NOT clip those-- called blood feathers.

My 2 month olds can roost 10 feet up already.

Yes I have looked at the helpful posts on where to clip.thank you!

These little stinkers are roosting at the top of a switch g door opening every evening so every evening I get them and put them in the barn and momma follows. I'm glad I do because 2 nights ago a huge owl

came and landed 10 yds away right by the hen house where they would have been. I'm not sure their momma would have been able to prevent anything. Even my 2 big toms were upset.

I cant stand it. I have to climb up and get 8 poults down each night, such a pain. I need to get them moved to an outside pen but currently my Toms are occupying the grow out pen.
