Thanks everyone for the advice. Believe it or not, he's still going. I decided if he was going to live, he'd do it on his own. I gave him a bowl of water and food, turned the heating pad on when he looked cold, but other than that, I left him alone. He was in a crate but could see the other birds. He's not 100%, but on his feet. I moved everyone to the grow out pen today, in my neighbor's barn. I figured he'd be upset by himself in the house, so he might as well go with the others. He certainly won't be cold out there. It's up to him now.

Sorry about your flock, TattooedMama. That had to be hard.

I have 12 - 4 week old BR poults. They are currently in my ex large dog crate. I do not want to put them outside in their coup yet. I have a chicken brooder box 8x3 that I want to put them into in the garage. Bedding is my problem, they try to eat the pine shavings, so I have used old sheets in their crate and wash them daily, sometimes 2x a day. What are my options for bedding in the brooder for poults?

They need to be moved today as they have run out of room. 3 different roosts at different heights, but the still need to move. Not pecking each other yet, nor do I want them to.

Thanks in advance!

Deb

You could use sand or leaves or grass cuttings. I am using sand.

I will be ordering the turkey storage bags in the morning. To make the shipping costs worth the money, I am ordering several things. They have a scale that goes up to 26 pounds. Is that good enough for BR?

Where did you find the scale, I need one like that!

Meyer Hatchery for $13. The s/h was $10. Have you ever heard of a pinning knife? I skipped it for now. Sounds pretty darn handy though!

Hey guys this upcoming spring I would like to get 3 or so poults to raise for Thanksgiving 2015 and was wondering if there was any advice or anything for a first time turkey raiser...thanks
