Turkey Talk for 2014

Yikes! I really wish Ideal would give a little more notice on when they ship chicks. I got notice an hour ago that my poults shipped today. I was thinking they'd come around mid to late March. I have chicks due to hatch Sunday and another batch next Saturday. Most of them are a friend's that I'm hatching for, but she wants to leave them here for a week or two since they will have to go outside in a brooder. She's waiting on her Sweeter Heater right now. That's 43 babies in the brooder! My dog's heads are going to explode.

Cute, but oh so messy!

Poults are so goofy. I am never going to raise them again. That's what turkey hens are for

I completely agree! But someone

butchered all the toms, thinking there were a couple younger ones coming along. Someone was wrong. So I ordered some BBB's so I have something for the freezer this year. Meantime, I also ordered hatching eggs from Country hatchery, so I can raise a nice tom for next year.

I do enjoy watching those silly poults go running and hopping across the brooder, flapping their stubby little wings, though. Makes me laugh. Especially since my adults birds do the same thing outside.

Someone could just hop in a car drive to Mn, and get a couple nice sweet luvable toms and save them from Freezer Camp..........

Oh no, I've seen the news. You have snow up to your eyeballs. I've done the snow thing and I won't be hopping in the car to head that way any time soon. Besides, before the end of winter, you might need those turkey dinners.

I love raising poults. I end up with sweet, lovable turkeys who are so friendly they approach annoying. My alpha tom sits at the gate every morning and waits for me to walk to my home office (past the doorwall) so he can gobble a greeting before he goes in to eat.

Nice Tom!

I agree turkeys are great. JJ our alpha comes to the house and yells ate us to come out and play.

When we go for a walk he follows us, it is the two of us, 2 dogs and JJ. We usually walk the perimeter of our land which is almost 3/4 the way it is laid out, he goes the whole time. He does like to lead at times and gets upset if we change directions on him.

We had men over installing cabinets in the other house and JJ followed them back and forth with the cabinets. When we were inside (this was last summer) he could hear us so he walked around and around the house trying to figure out where we all were.
