Turkey Talk for 2014

Is this the pair where you were asking if they were BBB or Heritage Bronze? It's hard to tell on the tom, since he's behind the hen in all the pictures, but the hen looks BB.

If these guys are bbb I may be in trouble. They look just like mine. I will get outside and post pics. Maybe you can help me with mine. They are mating, shes not laying yet this spring. I got them from my neighbor, and he doesn't know what kind he ordered. Just knew they were bronze turkeys. I'll be back soon with some pics. And I'll be sure to include individual pics of each.

Thanks for all your help in advance!

Deb

One of the few times I have been bitten-- it was a momma ferret at a zoo. I had gone in her cage to clean and she took offense. SHe wouldn't let go, lifted her right off the ground with my finger. Yeah-- I'm terified by ferrets now!! COol creatures but I keep a safe distance now. lol

Ok here are my pair of turkeys. BBB or bronze heritage? Got them from my neighbor who only knew he ordered bronze. The rest of the flock was butchered at about 9 months or so. His tom weighed approx 25 lbs at that time.

25# at nine months? Given my BBW weighed 35# DRESSED at 5 months, you have heritage bronzes. THe 25 # is about the dressed weight of the cross bred heritage that I just butchered over the weekend.

I know it is hard to compare with out2 birds side byside, and if you had a bbb and a heritae to grope, you would know immediately which was which. BUt as you only hve the one and given the info provided on the wt-- heritage type.

DOes it try to fly?? Only my over 1 year old heritage males don't fly anymore. Girls take to their wings. My BBW were grounded but good.

Pet or breeding prospects in this ones future??

yup.. works just fine so long as the eggs have been stored and turned properly

I'm supposed to pick up eggs on Sunday... I just emailed her because the day before she contacted me she had placed 4 eggs in the fridge... Asked her if she hadn't washed them that I would take those too... Wont hurt to try!!

Both of these are just at the 1 yo mark. And neither fly, my neighbor kept their wings clipped way to short, I got them at about 5 months old, so they don't even try, even though I have never clipped them. breeding only for freezer.
