Two-legged predators

I keep thinking about a camera... but... if a thief notices it (don't they have a flash?) would they just steal the camera too? I need to read up on them to see how they work.

Video cameras don't have a flash. At night, ours switch to infrared. A thief may notice, but it's unlikely if you place them well and mount them out of easy reach. Plus, they are typically covered under your homeowners insurance should they be vandalized.

Besides.. in most cases, stealing the camera isn't going to effect video already recorded.. such of them reaching up to steal said camera.

I would very passive aggressively put a giant sign on my front lawn.

"yes you got the first two free, but the next ones will come with a hospital bill."

I'm so sorry.

How heart broken you must be.

I hate the thought of losing an animal to a predator, but I think losing to humans is worse(for me not the bird).Just the thought of a low life neighbor would grind my gears all day long.So sorry this happened.Lesson I learned:Lock the chickens in at night,or in a secure/locked run when leaving for the day....and set up a game cam!!!!! Need that cam since people can just cut the fencing or kick in the door.

im sure that would deteer most theivs.but,in the event somthing did happen in a very bad way,and lets say you had to defend your self and shot some one.that sign could be considerd evidence of premeditation.

Your standard "Private Property- No Trespassing" signs would be good, too. In Virginia it is a misdemeanor to trespass on private property, but the fine increases when it is posted private property. If nothing else, the signs would let any potential repeat offenders know that you've noticed and it would allow you non-violent ammunition for prosecution. When we bought our farm, it had been vacant for nearly a year and folks had taken to using it as their own private hunting haven. I came home from work one day and followed a couple of teenagers all the way down our driveway. They parked in my parking deck and got out to look for deer, even though I was right behind them! Needless to say our whole property is posted and I won't hesitate to call the sheriff's office.

[[[[.....hope these people did this only because they were hungry and desperate for food, ....]]]]

People don't steal because they are hungry. They steal because they are thieves. Most theft is tied in to drug use.

If people are hungry, there are food banks, soup kitchens, and lots of $ worth of food stamps for anyone with children and low income. Not even low income, the income requirements for food stamps is quite high.

Theft of vegetables from gardens and fruit from orchards has gotten quite common, and I hear more and more stories about poultry and livestock being stolen. It's not the bad economy, it is the lowered moral standards in this country and too many people's feelings that they are entitled.
