Ummm... uh oh. Or accidental duck owner

i had ordered what I thought were Rhode Island Reds, for larger eggs. Did my normal chick incubation, lockdown, etc. they didn’t hatch and I then got busy with work (on-call, mandatory OT) and my wife’s IVH (trying to hatch our own eggs).

This morning I hear peeps from the basement, and imagine my surprise when I see the funniest looking chicks I’ve seen....



So yeah. Guess it’s time to learn about ducklings.

Are they like chicks when it comes to the yolk? They okay for first day or so?

They must of hatched overnight, I need to go get feed and such for them.

Congrats! Ducklings are the best. I think they continue to absorb yolk for the next three days! It's so amazing, I'm guessing you had humidity set for chicken eggs while duck eggs need higher humidity? They are adorable.
